well zach brown you look way too healthy for somebody who's supposed to have been indoors for the last four months and everyone what's going on bro like is there a standing tanning bed in your house or what's happening man man i've been on the lake as much as i can i've just been out with
the kids and uh you know been outdoors as much as possible actually probably more outdoor since i'm not living in a tour bus than i have been yeah um you know being at home i really enjoyed this at home with playlist series because i get to kind of i get to dive into your life through the
music that you've chosen and what you love and this is a hell of a playlist bro this is a hell of a playlist who are some of the key artists that you really can trace your musical inspiration to man my biggest influence was james taylor how did james say the greatest hits tape and i've played that tape
until it broke two different times and and for me it was like i don't know it spoke to me in a different way but the crafting of a song and i think studying it and trying to like dissect that as a kid and as a guitar player was like that that opened up but what the possibilities are and like playing a
bass line underneath what the chords are doing and moving and making a move in places that don't normally go there you know he was he was a genius man he is a genius hey you're from atlanta you're from atlanta and you know you've you know you've you've made no bones about that man
you're a proud you know a proud descendant of the atl and uh if anyone needed any further uh any further proof of that take a look at who shows up next um we're going into a dungeon family outcast back to back it's a little mini suite reflecting some of the most adventurous and remarkable
music ever to come out of america to come out atlanta changed her dungeon family and outcast changed everything and no one's touched them i think since i agree yeah the first time that the first time i heard that follow the light song and you hear because i was a big slime a family stone fan
so when you hear andre we hear andre channeling sly and i didn't know where that was coming from but you you put this like cosmic like space man in the middle of and melodically what he did put him in the middle of it and then you wrote him down with big boy who's just coming out of the strip club
he's just coming out of the strip club so they're moving in the middle of the street here's andre who's wearing the funky crazy spaceman sly clothes and here's big boy who's literally just throwing ones around it's crazy it's just it doesn't make any sense but it's brilliant like it was
it's perfect and so and the content of what they were talking about and rapping about was like it was relatable to me so i couldn't really get into like biggie and i couldn't get into like other hip-hop stuff because i couldn't relate to any of the lyric you know i can appreciate it i can appreciate how
good it was but but i didn't it didn't do it for me so when outcast came out it completely opened my mind to other things that i didn't even know that i liked and so and then hearing big boy and andre and followed the likes and then ceelo comes in and i think silo is one of the most
talented people on the planet uh eric church listen there's somebody who um like you said you've you've you you're an unafraid creative and you've built a band with you know for yourself with your friends that covers a lot of ground and you get the respect you deserve when it comes to
to sort of relating to to artists in a more traditional environment how do you how do you sort of connect the two because i don't look at zach brown and zach brown band as being a country band i just don't i don't know if that's good or bad i just don't i know a lot of people do and i wonder
how you relate to some of your peers in that space that do want to be more traditional you know church is a lot like me he did it all from the ground up this last record that he put out is um is strong man and jay joyce has been killing it with him for a really long time i love getting to work with jay he's
raw and pulls out some sonically and rhythmically some amazing things but you know eric church is definitely an outlaw in the space and he loves rock music and he loves you know he's just an artist he's not he's not a country musician you know he's a real artist he's got a real band
i've got mad respect for him uh and i taught him how to spearfish one time i watched the stingray almost drown him one time it was pretty amazing what seriously he wrestled with a stingray yeah yeah i just look over and he's just doing like a whirl he's just like doing a going in circles and like coming up rare and
trying to breathe and everything and he had a hold of the stingray because he because he speared the stingrays yeah it was like this you know we were using them for uh for for bait you know so it was it was pretty fun but but eric just get in the water just right around there just right right
around there no a little bit to the left oh we had so much fun we had so much fun how did you learn how to spear fish first time i went was in the bahamas with this guy named willis he's a bohemian guy it was just like just a legend there and like his ears are shot out from freediving so much and
he's just like a he's just like a fish in the water man but that's what gave me the bug the first time i went and um you know there's nothing like it for me and being in the belly of the ocean and just with with nothing on but a weight belt and your gun and a mask you just like
you just look up and see the sky from underneath the belly of the ocean man and it's like it's one of the things that make you feel the most small and humble but just like connected to the world you know and it's physical like a day of spearfishing i'll come home and i just sleep like a baby because you're just
you're just worn out all right we're gonna finish with adele because you always finish with adele it's adele you always do she doesn't go anywhere else but either at the very start or at the very end you never put it on let me tell you real quick my dell story so i'm doing this country music
tv show thing that they did and they only did it a year or two but darius rucker was singing this duet with this girl that i didn't know she was and i saw i was like is that adelaide or adele or i didn't know what her name was right so this is this is right before 21 came out
yeah and they sang a song on on stage and she came down and was like i really love your music i really love the song called the web i really and i was just like well that's that's great you know it's really nice to meet you had i known that like six months later i probably i probably would have just
jumped on her like a spider monkey and just put my legs around her and just you know i had no idea that i was gonna just be in love with this voice and this music coming from this lady man i had no clue and so now it's just like maybe one day i'll get to meet her and and tell her that story but i i didn't
even i didn't know what to say you know i had no reference i was just like oh it's nice to meet you too cool see you later i love that two brand new songs from zach brown band um as the music continues to come out as we're in isolation i like the fact that you know artists are finding
your voices in a natural cadence um that it wasn't like oh we're in isolation now everybody just put music out to stay in the stay in the picture i was like no no we'll put it out when we're ready i really want to say something and i can imagine it was the same for you that you didn't want to rush it even
though everything had slowed down yeah it was really nice and you know about a year ago i finally put a studio at my house which i've never had timing the studio was always in nashville so it was really nice to just have it out in the yard you know and be able to go out there and um
and and like you said when when you're not doing something because you're pressured to do it when you're doing it because it's natural it always turns out better the results always better so these songs i mean these are deep these are deep songs in particular you know one of them the man who loves
you the most is um it's a big record and you know it's got a lot of a lot of the kind of um intricacies that we love about storytelling and specifically in country music and actually in hip-hop as well you can paint a picture with a lot more detail and i wonder kind of how it was to write
this song because it's a heartbreaker yeah man you know my love for my kids is is just completely unrivaled from anything i've ever known you know and and seeing them now like going going from them being in in diapers and running around and like brushing their teeth every night and the you know so
now they're a little older you know and they're they're almost taking care of me now it's like that change has already happened you know my oldest is 13 and um and then knowing that they're going to have their own lives man you know they're going to go out there and they're going to have other people that
become you know really important to them and so it's uh it's terrifying but it's also a chance you know i i thought it was beautiful to get a chance to say you know no matter what you go through that i'm i'm the constant and i'm and i was here first and i love you i love you the most
