into a little insight into this is a good character trade I think um Million Dollar Baby was everywhere we got excited cuz that's what music does to us yeah and see if we can get Tommy we going want a FaceTime talk about song and he's like yeah I'd rather just talk to you I'd rather jump on the phone and
just say what's up and just I suppose get the measure of the individuals and I thought that was really cool it doesn't happen very often but it it teed us up nicely I wanted people to know the background so they know what we're talking about but how are you man yeah man I'm doing good bro I'm doing good
yeah we've had this album since like December of last year wow it's been working on this yeah and like even before like the songs that went crazy we've had this like this body work that we really believe in trying to like execute this concept we've had for so long and I don't know man really trying
to like build the world cuz I feel like we've like a lot of people lost touch was just like building out characters building out worlds you're right on time you're right on time you're not alone but it's not you're right you came to the same conclusion as a few other key key artists Charlie XCX came to that
conclusion very recently yeah and there's a few others that have sort of built this this experience for us that goes deeper than just a collection of songs a collection of moments and yet you found yourself on the receiving end of that classic modern meta viral nut job which is just like you
know hey you have the biggest song in the world right now but you had this body of work that you wanted to represent you so now I actually get a chance to ask you face to face how was it at that moment knowing that you know you'd been given this gift but at the same time it was sort of out of
character with what you were trying to build towards which is coyote it's really not how I imagined it I really thought that like I was going to put out this album and that's how I was going to blow up off of oh have you heard this album by this guy like body work yeah this body of work and and I mean I I
used to like really not like posting on Tik Tok I posted on Tik Tok throughout like 2021 for like off off and on for three years but I was just like all right let me just post like four times a day yeah yeah post over and over again and that we made that song like a week before and one post and and the craziest
thing is that like I work with like a good team these people post like an independent independent label and they do a lot of lot of cool stuff and but we post that and it's like there's no marketing behind that there's no money behind that at all it's just like one clicks it's one big organic moment and
it literally caught fire they're making fun making jokes on Twitter and it's like the Twitter jokes went crazy and yeah it just took a life of its own and changed our lives overnight bro it must have been a relief to know that while everybody was getting to know you through this song which is a banger by
the way I mean I'd love to know what you think a Million Dollar Baby now through the context of the world versus when you made it but it's it's it's a sticky very very cool track must have be nice to know that actually cool you guys sit with that but I've got this I'm ready I've got coyote and when the time is
right I'm ready I'm I'm not scrambling to make good here I mean I appreciate Million Dollar Baby I think it's a good song like we made it made at the time and made it quick yeah we made it quick when we made that song it was we didn't even think anything of it we made we're
like oh it's cool even we play it to like people at the label they're like oh this is cool and it's like the people just choose that one yeah and we made Devil's lie the next day yeah with all of us and yeah it took a life of its own and it's really interesting man cuz this song blew up like insane proportions
like somehow like statistically the biggest song of the year and yeah and know there's even bigger statistics in that cly hold that thought there's like some crazy thing where it's like I know there some billboard stat where it's in the top 100 most stream songs of all time or something I don't know it's
nuts yeah it's insane bro out of some like just some we're just around the studio and and that happened and I appreciate it man I really do and and it's like how how can how can I be like and I go back and forth in my head like yeah you know there's like the Arts they hate their
biggest song yeah and they just always go back and forth in the head they're like I'm not performing this one yeah yeah but it's like I don't know I I appreciate the song it doesn't like Define me as an artist definitely not well I feel like right now like the song is like bigger than me like I feel
people don't really know my face people don't really like know me because I really like talked at all you know you've been very deliberate about not putting yourself in front of million dooll baby I thought it was I thought it was smart you know from my perspective as a fan because I wasn't exhausted and
now I'm ready to know more and now I've got this album which is who you are right now which is like you made good bro thanks you made good thanks man like it would have sucked if it had come through and it was like oh man Million Dollar Baby is real High Point where's he going to go now
you but it's not I actually feel like I'm not surprised million dollar baby's not on this album that's why I put it thanks man yeah I really thought about that one too yeah it was like it went to war went to war for that one yeah yeah some people like why wouldn't you put it on the album yeah cuz it's like I don't
know I don't really care about the album sales I don't really care about that and also I I think it's good setting that tone cuz it's like this is my music this is 11 songs of of this sound and first of all million-dollar baby doesn't doesn't even count at first I was make it a bonus track yeah and then it's like
boy I get the last song of the album seems like time movs forever it's just like super solemn Journey like thing and it's like if that song ends and it goes like baby it's like I'm like nah bro like just what's a bonus anyway smacking all in the face a lot of love and care went into it real sound real
um lot of things I I personally love lot of stuff I grew up with that clearly I don't know how it made it into your frame of reference drama sounds a feeling um vocal tone even the vocal sound even the fact that it's kind of not perfect it's been done in way which is like the Reverb and the slapback Echoes and
everything is just kind of making it feel like it's drawing you in in a different way super broad question what inspired the sound that you are currently in right now I'm sure you'll transform into 50 million Tommy Richmonds but right now this is what you sound like what inspired you to want to
create something that was really kind of a a Virginia variation of a very sort of modern version of late' 70s kind of seedy Funk is it kind of in a way I don't know I was trying to make a sound where it's it's got the nostalgic feel but it's like with a new Twist on it like it's a contemporary sound but it's
like familiar yeah in a way so where are the elements come from what turned you on to these things your collaborators did you listen to it in the home like how did you you s of conjure up this this puzzle I don't know I grew up listening like I had a weird music taste growing up cuz I don't really like
listen to that much that much music cuz my dad and my mom they're like big rockers like my Dad loved like mly crew your named after Tommy Lee right I am I am named after Tommy Lee it's research man nice research man those facts they stick yeah they listen to listen to rock music and and I really I never
really listen to hip-hop my friend friend KO put me on a Kanye and then yeah yeah just started doing all that safe to say your earliest musical memory is probably watching Tommy Lee spin around in a drum kit upside down yeah yeah and it's like I don't even think he knows well probably doesn't
know I was named after my mom told him at a meeting cre she was like oh I Nam my son after you he was like oh that's that's sick hey yeah crazy yeah so your friend so your friends I mean it's it's either going to come from in the home or it's going to come from in the classroom yeah someone's going to
come along and say Hey you like music see if you can get down with I get down with do you like this and that's how friendships form and that's how you find your crew and you find your people right it's a story as old as time so that was that was how you kind of found this more modern lexicon and you didn't end up

from everybody loves music to Tommy Richmond is now a recording artist making a smash hit record yeah definitely so what was that moment when you crossed the line and decided that you were going to actually participate and it was going to be something you going to dedicate you your time too
honestly like my whole life I've been singing my whole life like I remember I did like a summer camp when I was like six I was singing some karaoke and then what were you singing do you remember what you were singing It's like some tiki Tiki song with like the tiki sticks and you're like banging them
stuff like summer camp and then I did like voice lessons growing up was in choir a lot and I always I wanted to sing I I went to school for singing I went to school for Opera in New York wow you did what's the what's what school is that I should know that what school is that yeah I went mahad school music wow
for like a year and a half and and the whole purpose of being there really is to improve as a performer and is and to emote and sing correctly yeah well that was like Opera's probably the most pure pure form of of like entertainment and like art cuz it's like it's not like a it's not like a drum or like a brass
instrument or strings it's like L your your lungs and your vocals and it was really beautiful I really enjoyed it I did it for a minute sing opera for a long time I wanted to be a like professional opera singer you can actually hold your own like you could do an Arya I could could una unaa fortiva
lria Quanto Bella so you were close you wanted to be an opera singer yeah man for I was in New York and I was like I was I'm going to be sing at the Met and bro I was singing at the Met and I was I was really passionate about but I didn't I wasn't quite sure if I wanted to do it because you know the Opera is a very
like long form media and it's like people people think it's boring it's a life in dedication to one very heavy incredible discipline yeah yeah yeah and it's like bro I I remember probably sophomore year oh no no even freshman year I was thinking like should I really even do this and I saw like have you
ever been to the Met no like the met the Mets like kind of like the Madison Square Garden of Opera yeah and I saw I forgot to show it's was like some German German Opera it was like four acts and I'm watching I'm like really I'm really with it and it's a great it's a great show I'm looking around and I see
people like falling asleep you know and it's like do I want to like be like going crazy singing the crazy people falling asleep to it and I thought about that and bro and I saw Travis Scott at the AST World L the next week I was really like the Leo meme staring at the TV like bro this is
like this is I'm going to try to do yeah yeah I'm going to go and sell stocks yeah yeah yeah this is mind-blowing yeah man I mean you were in the mitt on a completely different pathway you lived a life before we even got to know who you were this is wild could have been a very different life

you are another child of Travis Scott just like like many many other children who went to see him perform live or heard his music and went that part all right step number one for Tommy Rich no longer a um what was your what was your vocal range was a lyric tenor no longer
a lyric tenor now focusing primarily on being whatever the you are again highest compliment I can give you I can't really think of a genre where it fits into it would you consider yourself more of an R&B singer now do you think or is it is it does it genres relevant even I don't know like I feel like this
Project's kind of on some alternative R&B with pop elements but yeah I I try to tap in like a lot of different bags lot of different bag honestly bro like with the album like it's it's a sound and then onto the next sound the next sound on the kind of like yay yeah yeah it's like same faithful all the way
through to it starting with elephant in the room I'm obsessed with why albums start if artists are going to continue to make albums which I know you will cuz I would cuz it's a it's an opportunity to spend a considerable amount of time building a body of work to say more substantial than a song I just don't
think it's satisfying enough putting song by song by song out so if you're going to start with an hour you're going to put 11 songs on this thing why elephant in the room why the beginning man we made that like about a year ago and I don't know it just when we made it it just had such a pure pure
feeling to it and it's like even like some lyrics I'm singing like my friends like laughing in the background it's like I don't know I feel like that song is like a well welcome like we're here yeah it's going to be okay like this is this this what coyote is about it's yeah it kind of like it's it's not like a
it's an intro that kind of just like warms you in cuz there's like some albums that like off the bat like you gets you in but it's like it's like a little smooth like a soft launch yeah it's beautiful there's an incredible Dynamic shift between that and Whitney and I feel like Whitney's like all right
We're Off to the Races now let's let's turn up let's go let's have a good time yeah yeah so you had your friends in the studio when you're making this record and there must have be moments when you know you're searching for what you want to say and one of the things I love about about your writing in your music
is it is fun M that there are moments when you smile or you do laugh along and you're in on the joke and we're on the joke and it's like yeah I know what I'm saying is kind of stupid but in a really cool way and by the way it's next to something that's deep so as you walk that line really carefully is that by
Design or is it just how it comes out that's just how it comes out that's how it comes out like how does it come out then how do you write songs do you improv do you consider them like what's the what's what's the what's the process yeah man most of the time it's like really impulsive feeling like I honestly
bro all of the album I don't think I wrote like a single thing on a notepad you felt it yeah it's all like line by line how I'm feeling in the moment and it's just I just do it yeah yeah so how do you know when it's done that's that's that's great question like cuz we had this album for a minute
but we just never like wrapped like the final bow on it it was like probably Zoo my man is losing his mind like want this G to be done but yeah we we finished it put a nice bow on it like yeah feels done like feel like my debut album is done you know really in a way it comes alive next year right you get a
chance to really show people what it means next year mhm yeah like trying to tour this album man like like the coyote tour we trying to do like a really really special special type of performance because I did like a did like a four City run last time honestly like just last week did like four shows
and it was cool man it was cool it was like a good like feel for where we're at how the how the crowd reacts see like the types of people that are pulling up to the shows I was really curious man yeah I want to know who's who's pulling up I was really curious cuz like before like before we blew up it was like we
used do like super like underground shows man because we got to think about everything is punk and like we used to do these underground shows in LA and it would be like 100 people just like animals bro just losing their minds like pushing each other it's on some real like punk punk and it's like the
more we blew up man it's like we kind of like lost that like punk punk Vibe and we're like I'm still trying to like keep that in the shows but it's like you know but when you got like a hit song and yeah yeah yeah people like people it's hard to get people to like really like go crazy this is a kind of punk sounding
record the drums are hot as thanks man and it's not a lot of musicality going on there outside of some key ingredients to do the job so in that regard it is kind of like bass drums guitar vocals Ramones go yeah man that's just all Jonah Roy I don't know where he's at he's sitting somewhere over
there but but yeah me and Jonah man like we really came up together with this sound I met him in 2022 one of the first people I met out in La let's get him in here we can we get here can we get the Formula 1 grand prix crew to come in here and like whip a mic up real quick it'll take two seconds where were you
man thought thought you going said oh that that's what it was by the way you watching this episode of drive to survive right now look how good the this this pit crew is how you feeling Joe feeling good man feeling good we got M we're live feeling blessed Drew super blessed no since and you will and you
will know us by the trail of dead destroyed their entire set for The Encore and then came out played one song and then destroyed the entire set again have I seen a pit crew come in and put everything back together so quick so he was saying that it's Punk and I was saying that I I understand that
statement I I can hear it in the way that you've made the music it's Roar it's it's you haven't polished it right it's like just so let's talk about the sound and and how you guys came together Jonah and how that sort of experience gave birth to Coyote you know yeah man I mean I met this dude just
like you know in La it's a good friend like what' you think of him when you first met him what was your first impression he's just a good guy he's very welcoming into the space like he's very like you know felt very comfortable yeah when it comes to like building the sound like I don't know we tried not to
like think about it too much you know we just kind of like make whatever we make we have our influences and those influences all just kind of go into like you know the sound that we've like created at least with like the album you know the high energy ones we know you can handle we know that there's
a Punk theme rolling through this experience from life to music but there's things like whisper in my ear there's moments on this album that are just allow you to be a little more reflective almost leaning into your ballad bag so what what are those sessions like and and and is it a different kind of performance for you
knowing that you kind just go out there and kind of improv and feel something with the energy it's different it's a different emotion it is different emotion man I don't know we really we kind of just go in the studio and kind of just lose our minds for a minute and just kind of just not even think
about it because we go in and sometimes you got an idea sometimes you go in and we're like okay we'll make some like swag today or say we'll make some indie it's kind of like either or but I don't know we just kind of around see see what's good I don't know yeah we also we also make a lot of music
like not in the studio as well like what you mean like hotel rooms sitting on my couch in my living room that's the fun part I'm surprised more people don't do that my thing is if you're going to go on tour and you don't have a portable speaker and and and a travel a traveling rig what are you doing yeah yeah yeah no
we made a lot of great songs just off like laptop speaker well how much fun is it just to be able to call up room service and ask for club Sage while you're making some it's great man I honestly prefer that than the studio much better much better environment H we made we made a bunch of
this in the studio yeah a lot of it just like over over look in the Mean Streets of Idaho and some in like marott I some marot basically yeah we make give it all in the hotel room Toronto yeah a lot a lot of the songs made on tour actually we were on tour last year airbnb's you've heard the guy singing in
lots of different capacities I'm sure so what's it like to record as vocal I don't record his vocal he records himself you do yourself he records all all interesting onog so I just kind of sit there and he just does his thing it's crazy to watch this man record cuz like he was saying earlier like he
doesn't write anything he doesn't like have any like no pre- Notions about like what the song is going to be he just like goes you know so it's just like it's a very like it's a very cool process at least for me as a producer to just like be able to give him the beat and just like let him do what he needs
to do and and it's always a great product even if you're moving fast and you're creating music which is reduced in nature which this is not a lot of elements going on as I said all of them essential but it's not like you're overpacking it they're not over reduced songs no you're still analyzing it to a
degree you're still trying to get the kick on and right you're still frequencies at odd and then put him in there and he's just exactly exactly yeah he also just like you can give the most simple beat you know and like he'll make it whatever pop he'll make he'll make it pop you know it's like he'll make it
like catchy like it doesn't have to be this intricate thought out instrumental or anything like you can give him like you can give him like just a kick and he'll make a hit out of you know yeah he got some yeah yeah it's like what's your story bro where you where are you from I'm from St Louis Missouri right yeah
yeah what got you into music uh my parents my parents are big into music um they put me on to like Beatles cure Flaming Lips when I was younger so wow they blew your mind yeah those are the three ODSTs that all three of them were in the outer reaches of what is possible yeah yeah yeah 100% man
and I was in like a band when I was younger called million hits um I was it was like a rock band learn something new should have brought the shirt yeah should brought the shirt what did you play I play guitar I play guitar and sang yeah um but yeah I did that for like five years and is hard right
yeah yeah yeah no it was like no one talks about it rocking oh yall rocking I saw some videos him like 8 years old yeah I was 8 to 13 just playing in bands and then I got into like producing in high school just like Garage Band what's the mood boy for you as a producer like who Do You Love forel Prince yeah Quincy
this French artist varnish ly scene yeah a very great artist if yall have never heard of him great artist um Tyler Kanye yeah just takes time you know just like building the sound knowing what you want you know having intention in a way but yeah and this man be making beats too
man this is a great producer right here well I was actually going to ask the question because if you record your own vocals and that's what got me thinking about it then obviously you like being at in control of the rig you like a little bit of that aspect of like okay let me work this I I know why you two
work together you obviously got great chemistry and you and you you finish each other's sentences creatively right the moment which is great thanks but you know what I mean but but at the same time and but it allows you to perform it allows you to not think about much except the vocals and getting that
performance side of things but there is a producer in you right yeah man for sure I produced produced a lot of produced like thought you were the one was that one done of done a lot done a lot of Bro made a lot of made a lot of Beats and sometimes bro I like making beats more singing yeah cuz like cuz bro
singing could be a lot man like you go up to the mic you got to like like get in a mode like but like beats you like you us be like asleep just like producing whatever not even thinking yeah cuz like singing like sometimes you got to really think kind of has that ever a problem for you letting go
executing releasing something I know Million Dollar Baby became what it was because you didn't think about it so that's the perfect way to execute right you had no idea what was going to happen if you had you might not have done it cuz bro coming up like I I have anything cuz I came up didn't really wasn't
really in like a musical family cuz my dad was like a drum teacher and my mom is is deaf so like there wasn't really that much music in the family kind of so there wasn't they weren't like in the scene or anything and I came from like small town Woodbridge Virginia nothing really going on there like the Virginia music scene
this just like it's in a very interesting place like I love Virginia it's definitely got its icons but I know but you would know better than I I do whether there's consistency there right I mean there's not a Fel on every corner probably but you know what I mean the Virginia scene's great I just feel like it's at an
interesting place where I feel like we should like be a little more Unity on that but yeah I've been putting out music like once once a month for the past like two years cuz I know like no one's going to hold my hand like bro nothing's going to fall into my lap cuz like bro I used to I used to do
everything bro like I used to bro I used to type spam comments on YouTube type beats like listen to my song like I didn't know I don't know what to do I didn't know anybody you can't have fear when you've got nothing to lose right at the end of the day nothing to lose like
how much of this ambition this drive to reach people comes from that experience as a kid where you probably felt pretty isolated and like I don't really know what's outside of this house or outside of the small town yeah well I really appreciate where I come from I really do because it's like 40,000 people in the
town and I used to make music in my basement bro I made music with uh my boy Donnie killjoy my name isn't J M K Leaf all those guys like we all came up with them like he making music man I'm still cool with all of them like J Maxx my brother man did the Chicago show with me he's got he's on the last track seems
like Tom was forever and like cuz the Virginia music scene is so interesting man cuz there so so many talented people but I just feel like there's like I don't know there's just like something is there a scene something not really not a scene not really so You' made this body of work and I wondered like Have
you listened to it can you listen back to it or were you too close to it do you love it do you appreciate it as a fan or do you still just feel like the artist who released who was able to release and now you've got to let everybody else absorb it's a good question man I think I love this album I really do I've
listened to this over and over again like unhealthy amount of times and we've had this music for a year at times like I'll get tired of it because you just been s cuz I brought I hate s on music for so long yeah but you did a good job of it it's been a year how like why did it take so long I
don't know I just wasn't ready I was waiting for like waiting for a moment so weird I I love this I hear this all the time from artists where they just don't know until they know and it's literally like okay go yeah cuz when we blew up I'm like oh now like now we got to like put out the sound I'm like well we got
all these eyes right now like show people really about like not I no hyp be like really trying to make some like Timeless art man like that lasts forever and that's why like I'm proud of the music and I'm not like expecting a certain reaction like you know I hope people I hope people love it
I hope people love as much as I do I hope this like I I mean I think music helps people bro I hope this like project helps people in a way like it really does it's magic music magic bro frequency is that that frequency therapy is real yeah 100% it's very real it's very real I've decided that there's a reason
why we democratize and we kind of trivialize music um presence in our life all the time we just expect it to be in the background or the foreground it's always around yeah it's because it's it's we do the same thing when we breathe we don't think about every breath we go crazy we just breathe yeah

for sure and don't know when that's coming out it's a completely different sound but I'm just proud of this this sound we got right now and and bro we're about to put this album and I'm just trying to like be annoying how much I promote this honestly I think it's an important part of this
generation of artists now that realize that even with the access to the internet where everything seems to be efficient and effective and you can just let it do its job that actually it's more important that you do your job now than ever yeah 100% I also feel like this album will like kind of weed out
like like or it'll like kind of like give like the real fans like what they want it'll like show who the real fans talking about shedding some million dollars off that Million Dollar Baby exactly exactly for sure for sure yeah cuz you know like that song Million Dollar Baby like it's reached like a
different threshold of like popularity you know so I think like this album also the song not being on the album like I think it'll really like you know just keep building like the true fan base the people that are pulling up to the shows like turning up singing every lyric like that's who the album's for that's who
you build with yeah yeah yeah that's who the album's for you and Brent seem to have been able to have strike a pretty amazing chemistry there in terms of like you are smashing it and he's continuing to focus on his things so how's your experience been collaborating with another artist
and not just letting an industry person do that person well things with Brent man I feel like it all just made sense cuz we're both from the same area we we we know like a lot of the same people and I remember he found he found my like 2023 well like Manny valy found my music off like a DMV playlist he saw my
song electrified tonight on it showed the music to zoo and then I met zoo and Zoo remember Zoo pulled up on me in the studio one time and but we just hit it off and started pulling up on me everywhere and then Zoo just kind of started like you know trying to bring me around introduce me to people MH and

there like Brent had the whole like you know lighting sound was super loud we went up there one Spotlight on us I was like playing like off the DJ board off like a Scarlet on stage it was super like DIY like I had my guitar he was singing it was great it was great definitely a big Learning lesson for both of us like
definitely like taught us a lot about what it takes to like just with touring and playing in front of that many people that don't know you you know do you like touring yeah I love touring I love touring when it's like with my friends you know yeah big adventure as well yeah
man just went on tour like a little quick quick one quick run getting ready to a big one yeah yeah Tommy I got to ask you you know as someone who um obviously proud of where you're from and therefore hyper aware of the influence that your parents and your family have had on you and you know ultimately help
you become who you become you know you're named after your dad's favorite drama and you know your mom is obviously really important to you how how is this kind of decision in your life to be an artist to tour to throw yourself into this great unknown which should be acknowledged as a courageous move to
back yourself to not just get a job to go out there and back yourself you are your job how do how does it affect your relationship with them and how do they feel about what you're doing with your life right now yeah man it's it's very interesting right now cuz my mom my mom's all like and forever in death to
my mom she's done so much for me that I could I could never repay even like when I was about to drop out of college man like she was like well the thing I'm an only child and so I feel like parents are an only child it's like a different it's it's just different it's just different rather than like a
big family and my mom just looked at it like nah bro if you want to do this like do it cuz my mom always believed in me man always believed in me and my dad too my dad too my dad like you know he's he's been like here and there he's been here and there and but I love my dad and I'm thankful thankful for
everything that's like I'm thankful for my life I don't regret anything like and I can't like have my head down on like how my upbringing was and like that's how I Define myself as a person I feel like the like the climate of how I was brought up like I feel like that's why I probably like you know try like make my
friends my family cuz I've never had like siblings and yeah it's crazy I didn't realize you were an only child and that really does kind of frame it in an even even bigger way for me the idea of being in an environment you and yeah you've established it you grateful for that environment
but this is how where you find yourself kind of on your own trying to figure out who you are of course it's art right of course it's music like that's where the imagination runs free you get to invent be whoever you want to be yeah like you think back to that kid in the basement or even before you went
down the basement trying to figure it all out like it's a crazy Journey right yeah man it's a crazy Journey it's like forever thankful at that basement Joe Joe saw it the other day finally went down there where like I met made all my even some off coyote too like yeah bro it's just been such like an
