it's rare that something so perfect can be embellished and made better I don't know how you did it Kim you took a classic and you actually made it better I don't know how you did it Kim Petras what is life right now for Kim Petrus let's find out congratulations I'd love to see it it's good to see you how are you good to see you so epic what does the original mean to
you I mean I know obviously you know people of a certain age will be will have danced to that at really important times in their life probably high on drugs I wanted to know what what that song Meant to you and and what it felt like to get on it and to and to be melodic and emotional over something so iconic I was born and raised in and that song is a classic classic clubs
and I had a lot of amazing moments some bad moments like so many Club moments in general to that song so that song is just like in me and I feel like it inspired me to like make music so I'm just so honored that Alice DJ let us let us do this because it's epic as a big fan of Nikki and as a lifelong fan and Nikki as well yourself to get to that moment when you're hearing that verse
for the first time and she puts her name next to your name I can't even I can't either like I'm it doesn't feel real still uh her saying is probably as competitors I like like cried like I was like on the floor and then she calls me Kim Petty in it which like all my friends are are like how did we not come up with that our entire lives and so she just like
changed my life in so many ways with that verse and like that first rips rips I love her and I'm so inspired by her always it's crazy to me I don't know if she does it but she's just like the greatest ever she keeps doing it I mean she's crushing with the ice spice she's now crushed this and I I just I I just think about like Nikki as well when she
jumps on someone's song and she decides to be a part of that it it's never it never has and I'm and I know it never will feel like a trade it doesn't feel like a trade it feels like she feels it she needs it she really wants to in fact I know she does she's told me she doesn't just do anything I'm so happy that she she likes the song uh we shot the music video together and she was
like Ugh I just want and I heard the song I just loved it and that just made me so happy how was it being on set with Nikki incredible I feel like I've learned so much like I feel like I love her more she's so like when the camera's on it's like crazy like she just goes into full Superstar like not that she's ever not a superstar but like she just turns it on so effortlessly and it's
amazing to watch and she was so like nice to me and the dancers and everyone it was just like really inspiring to see and to watch and she was super encouraging I think she's embraced her her Legacy as as a real goat I mean she's broken so many records she's set so many new standards and walked through so many doors for the first time Paving the way for others that I think that you
know as she continues to be so relevant on a contemporary level she's also acknowledging that like yeah I mean something to new generations of artists I can be inspiring in a different way yeah for sure I mean she means so much to to new artists I think like it's it's unavoidable how good all of her music is what's one of your favorite Nicki Minaj's memories when you're a kid
that kind of set you on this path to collaborating with her especially with like Pink Friday and that era and like check it out on the VMAs I remember the performance like specifically and when I was performing at the VMAs I kind of did a little nod to their performance because to me that even though it was like the pre-show or something like to me that always stuck
out as one of the greatest VMA performances um she was just just um such a powerful person and I feel like kept me inspired when I was kind of starting out making music and producing music and just making Demos in Germany just to to go harder and that I can you know be whatever I want to be and I can be uh intense and I can be funny and I can make characters and all of that was
just so cool you know Roman and Martha and all of her little crazy characters were just like so it for me and still are um and then yeah I mean she just like the quality just never you know always goes up and like I'm so inspired by that now because like it's been like five years since I've been dropping music and I I aim to be you know to continue getting better at what
I do and to never you know never dip and I feel like Nikki's inspiring in that regard you make such a good point about Nikki's ability to change her identity in a very Unapologetic way she's always gone like you know you think I'm this I'm this I could be this I can be this I mean even as recently as Chun Li she's like man I am going to wreck rappers
right now I'm Chun Li I love Johnny anyone who's played Street Fighter knows if someone steps up next to you and puts a quarter in the machine and chooses Chun Li you right if they know how to play Chun-Li you are absolutely right she is absolutely the best character in the hands of someone knows what they're doing um and I think about someone like yourself who who decided in your life
with the support and it was a beautiful speech of your mom and of people around you you know my identity is who I want to be and I'm gonna and I'm gonna decide how I live my life and who I truly am and you make a good point about Nikki like she kind of in her own way has been Paving that way through through by being really playful but also saying don't box
me into something just because you think I do one thing yeah you can box her in she's so many things and all of those things so Nikki and I'm such a Barb I just could talk about Nikki all day and we've spoken before and um you know we've got to know each other a little bit and this particular kind of environment as well but the last few years for you have been life-changing
um you know Grammy uh Unholy you know your own music Sony's hit so much success um how are you sort of taking it all on because I know you dream of this when you're a kid then it starts to happen um and it really speeds up and I just wanted the honest truth about how you're finding balance it does get hard I mean especially the last few months like the Grammys were just like a few months ago
and like really changed my life in a big way so it's crazy that kind of this year just started out with with like such a bang for me and then Nikki jumping on the song is just like one of the greatest life achievements for me ever in my life um and it's just been uh really amazing kind of it's It's it really sped up my album and how people kind of you know
finish it and it's like done now it's done it's done yeah that's done I'm so excited I'm so excited it was time to say it oh okay thank you for sharing it with us how did you feel when you when you knew that the last sort of note had been worked on and you felt like it's it's as complete as it can be it's such a special feeling and especially since uh this was kind of the last almost
three years of my life um it's you know it's it kind of sucks because it also is kind of like oh my God no people are gonna judge it and it's going out for everyone to hear it it's just been so fun living in my bubble with the songs and just my friends know them and they're like our little our anthems and so now it's time to just like face what people think
about it but I think also it's my first major label pro project that I've done I've gone and worked with like some amazing uh people that I'm just so excited to have worked with can you tell us one or two can we be cheeky can you give us an idea who you worked with I mean Max Martin is like the biggest dream for me to to work with I'm such a
huge Max Martin fan and just being in the same room writing songs was just just a full circle moment me looking up to Max and I loved working with Max and then uh Ian Kirkpatrick who's incredible I love uh working with them I did a bunch with circuit and uh that was awesome and yeah it's just been kind of like exploring all around and working with new people and finding new
processes and learning new ways to write songs and it's it's been inspiring and it's been um just like uh I'm really passionate about this album and about every single song so that's amazing one of the great achievements uh that Kim Petras has has has pulled off this year is um is is sitting still beneath uh Sam Smith's uh large uh elongated dress on SNL but the
goodness knows how long and I've and now I'm speaking to and having known Sam a long time I want to know what it was like um you know being under the address on live television for that long well and what you were thinking well honestly like a lot of a lot of people don't know that like I was very much in control of keeping the dress shut as well so I was like going like this and every move Sam
would make out like Dodge so it like didn't open and it was it was definitely a wild ride under there and I I like I I got to take my vape under there when it was too long you were vamping under the dress on SNL video vaping under the dress that is the coolest ever that is the coolest ever it's pretty fire you must have been you must have been under the address thinking this is the most
strange thing I've done in a long time yeah for sure but like honestly like I love the Vision loves them every single thing together and so I just felt with Sam it just felt natural because Sam's just like an insanely artistic person just a beautiful open human being and they absolutely adore you I mean when we spoke to them around this around this album and they were
talking about you um you could tell that Sam has this intensely connect intense connection with you um and the Unholy really the success of that song is a reflection of your Chemistry it's a it's a hit record but it really found all of us because of the two of you and your spiritual connection I think thank you yeah no I think so too I'll you know Sam I I hope we're gonna
be just friends for life and that was truly just like such a magical experience getting to know Sam it's been awesome for send uh that collaboration and I wonder whether or not you've opened up the door on your album to collaboration as well and whether there's people who are going to show up on your record I can't Panic the one um you got the Nikki that's what I've
always really wanted like on my first Like official Major level album I've always wanted Nikki like that was always my you know number one person um but uh yeah um there's there's one other cook there's two other collabs on it uh which are both awesome and I'm very excited about uh there's one uh with banks who have been a big fan of us and me too and
uh she's another person who I just kind of got to know in the studio and just like writes and who whose music I've been inspired by and we've come up with a pretty sick song with uh OG Volta so uh I'm so hyped about it but yes I also still have a couple songs out there that I'm hoping people will send in their verses if they still feel like it that's the worst it's the worst the waiting
around is the worst it's like you you never you never realize like how bad artists are at keeping time or working within the fabric of of society until you wait for them to return with something on like 16 bars that's the most glaring example of like wow this is a show industry for sure but I mean that's that's kind of my problem like I'm German I'm so like punctual like if
I say I'm gonna I'm always like on time like that and people look at me crazy like sometimes I'm like early to and like people usually are not on time and all of that so I'm also like getting used to that we were 10 minutes late for Kim she must have been sitting there looking at a FaceTime like this at this apple music crew oh I was pissed pissed as hell
