I thought I could be an exception [Music] nope it's kind of a weird thing to say thank you through your music to people it's not often done yeah it's a little it's I mean I think it's also just like part of my personality maybe a bit corny and Earnest I love that though I love that though it's it's it's um celebratory and I think any celebration
if you're in the celebration it's not corny if you're outside yeah you call it corny I guess that's true you know it was so corny what happened in that room why cuz you wenter in it kind of well also it's like you don't want to forget anybody you know what I mean I was kind of doing a parody of like a a thank you
speech for winning an award you it's it's dangerous because once you pull that thread man there's a lot of people you're going to leave off right at the end of the day it's like you just have almost have to do it at the end and for anyone else I for God it literally is like accepting an award the one of the funniest moments of the album was the
last thing I I did we were um at Henry's house who produced the album like one of the last nights up to like 400 a.m. working on it and I'm like oh my God I forgot to thank NY Rogers like yeah cuz he's in the lyrics but you didn't shut him no I do oh you too but someone is the hilarious background of me going n Rogers yeah oh that's right cuz there's
a couple of people in a couple of people in the lyrics that are that are there but you don't hear them until in the background n was one of them there's someone else cashmir cat that's cashmir cat I was like I'm reading cashmir cat I he they're both backgrounds I go cashmir cat next Bar N Rogers yeah yeah so what
that's the first time n Rogers has ever had a background shout out that's epic which is ridiculous should have had many at this point congrats on the album man I know it means a lot to you um more than just a gift for us as fans I know it was a really important Hill for you to climb um you know you've been climbing it and stopping and then
making base camp with the neighborhood and climbing Another Mountain all but you've always come back not to stick with the analogy but you've always come back to this mountain this idea of like I've got to see what the views like once I've made this album what's it like a relief you know um I'm really happy it's out
I'm genuinely proud of it I'm just happy that it represents me and I get to represent it as I move through the world at this point cuz you know I've experimented so much and had my version of fun and uh always you know kind of done what I've wanted to do and luckily there's always been a version of my audience that that have stuck with me and maybe
some that have been like ah I don't know about this like it's we've all been fans of of someone or something that you be come and go you lose them sometimes along or you know what I mean but Mone comes money goes it's temporary Hey Brother somebody said it you know what I mean um but yeah so it just feels I'm just like relieved man I'm just like at
peace and now the only like I had a freakout week last week uh leading up to it yeah just because like you know most stuff for me like takes time to like um you know kind of simmer like especially once it's out um and I just kind of have to have faith in that process now and you know there's parts of it that maybe I can it it can help to
to push the music a little bit more but as far as and I'm sure I I know I'm the thousandth artist to come in here and say this kind of stuff but like you know elements of like the the self-promotion Social Media stuff I just don't I'm not as passionate about as I once used to be and I have to like kind of be forgiving
of myself with that too because you know so much of this of the whole thing relies on the artist now it's like our job to do every little part of it um which is also why I'm so grateful to be here today talking to you because it's like I know you you know me we get to do this really cool interview like you have all taken the time to do this like I'm
just like yeah if this is what I I I get then I'm doing really awesome and there's a lot up in there man I mean first of all you're right the tools that are in the box now for the artist to use M and I think if you're starting out and you've grown into this algorithmic generation of like okay it's all random
like who knows what's going to pop but I just got to be ready when it does and then I go to work right then I go to work right so in that regard nothing's really changed CU even when you had a label telling you what going to happen there were no guarantees you just had to be ready if it did yes and so I think I think I think the work ethic is still
there I think it's just it's just translates different but for you you've done the work you've got the fan base so your bar is different to anyone else's bar in terms of what you consider to be the foundation for Success yeah and I guess for you well that's why I'm going to ask you like this album is a success already it's done it's how you wanted it
I love it others will love it you're going to get great feedback for it the music will live forever you've created another body of work that lasts of a time but what do you want to do if if going out there and doing Tik Tok ain't going to be the move yeah then what and aside from this because I love this but what what what do you want to
do around this album Now how do you want to how do you want to build on it cuz I'm sure you want to keep building on it yeah I like the songs man and I like playing them and I you know the more you do this the more you I think write and design things to last and to perform and you know I want to be able to play the songs for people and part of that is
like you know I hope the songs do get exposed I said something at um I did like a a short run recently and I said something at my Chicago show and I referenced a different artist um and I was like I said to the crowd I was like do you remember like we all kind of knew who this artist was and then they put out this one album and everything like
really changed and like I know for me like I really hopped on board there and like was it go out on tour it was Casey Musgraves and like when she when she got to go out on tour and do the golden hour moment it was like that was all her newest stuff and it's any artist's dream I I believe to do your newest body of
work and have that be the one where people are like yo this so then you get to go out and do it and you already have the experience cuz you're better cuz you're better like often time when you have that SM out the box and you would have had this with the neighborhood to some degree you're learning on the job it's like wow we''ve got a now for quite
a while that we know what the we're doing and and now you actually do know what you're doing I think so oh it sounds like it's in some ways I do like I yeah like when it comes to Performance I definitely feel like uh I've like it's nice growing up too because I've kind of like chilled in in in enough of a way like you know I look back at so many I
can't even watch old neighborhood stuff a lot of the time because I'm like oh my god well there's a lot of anxious energy I remember the first times we hung out you know you were going a thousand miles a minute yeah and there was a lot of anxious energy and I felt like you were really making the most of time cuz you
were scared of time it was like absolutely is that fair assessment when you were younger and this thing was happening I was just moving forward so F I still have to slow myself down for this for doing this cuz I'm I'm I'm just prone to to doing this but like yeah it was a lot of fear a lot of instability um not very much security
and also I think delusion which I know I've heard artists talk about like you do you need that to a degree but like thinking oh this is my life now and and and this is always how it's going to be and it's only going to be more of this exact thing like more hits or more invites to to this award show or this thing and then time goes by
and maybe that doesn't happen again and you start looking back and you're like H that was the moment I had to do that thing and like I wore that outfit and hair looked like that and like I did that thing like H my God what a what an idiot you know what I mean yeah yeah yeah I mean and then also you're like H
whatever who cares but like I don't know man I think it's all part of the big the beautiful tapestry of it all I don't think that you can get here you know without having all those experiences being able to laugh at yourself being able to recognize who you were as a as a younger kid make trying to make music trying to make sense with thank God you
had your friends around you oh my God I know you know I can't wait for that to happen again but right now we're focused on yeah we got this album which is called one we're going to talk about the last minut name change in a second but we were right now we were just talking about thinking too much cuz that's dude I can relate yeah me and my buddy DWI
always call it um like shrug energy Shug or I'll make the joke like shrug life like I'm going to get tattooed on my stomach but just you kind of you want it to feel that you know what I mean very uh I mean to me like John lennin was was one of the best at it where it's like so exactly throwa away and so simple but
just like yeah that's that's true you know I think it's like the hardest thing to do a great quote isn't it like how do you write these classic Beetle songs he said something like say what you mean make it rhyme yeah right so annoying I mean it's so hard but or to me at least it is it only gets harder it's only gotten harder get harder what what makes
you say that because you get sick of your own sick of your own tricks thought you thought to sound like a cliche to yourself yeah and in some ways you like want to do I mean some of my favorite artists like I feel like have maybe consciously or unconsciously cracked doing a really good impression of themsel and um like
that's when if I'm in a session and someone's like oh yeah that's such like a Jessie thing I'm like can you tell me what you mean by that like I don't even know if I quite understand exactly what that is sometimes I think you nailed it with shrug energy I mean this is this this's this thing that you have where you you write these really deep
thoughtful observations but you do not mind making it feel like you're throwing them across the table over coffee H I'm I'm so I'm so Earnest it's just pathetic like who cares dude like it's something wrong with Being Earnest man no you're right but like it's better than dishonest I prefer it I I I look for it in my um um entertainers or my um
you know yeah so you what you're saying is is that that you offset that by being playful in in delivery and I try yeah yeah yeah and even chip I mean chip was an exercise and probably trying to get away from that Earnest impression of that people have of you right and being like hang on I'm I'm also an Entertainer and I'm going to take on that classic
role of the Entertainer through costume and makeup and through presentation right but it's also funny that people don't often understand your sense of humor especially when you welcome to life well especially when you didn't enter with a sense of humor like I entered the scene the game you know as as like a very overdramatic dude you're
the serious person so then when you band when I tried to take when I put a photo up on Instagram that was color that I got a message saying cut that take it off black and white or bust yeah I was like whoa fellas fair enough that was such a good day I remember calling cook and he's like Zip Zip you're serious about this take that down I
was like you got it no problem I get it that's I get it I mean we but also it's like it was serious in a way that was like come on is it that big of a deal like that was more so the energy for me always was just like yeah who cares just press the button and do it it's like not that and nowadays I don't think any of
that is is is a big deal but you listen but and fairness to you and the boys and to get to this place where where shrug energy is Alive and Well on this album you know to be fair to you you were building a a a a safe place for you and to do that it needs walls and it needs floors and it needs ceilings and it needs doors and windows it needs to be
secure and needs to be airtight yeah and here I am leaving the window open and you're like close the window so I understand it it's it's like that was an important time to to to to draw a line and say this is what we represent and fans will notice it right relationship building it was yeah yeah and so much of it was
unintentional uh you know I don't know how much I was looking at it as a I honestly and this goes to this record too like so much of this album process for me has been about like all right like you know just me man like look it I grew up my stupid beard and now I'm just like you look great you know like I'm just
but thank you but I'm just like you know I I'm used to creating um whether it's a character or like a world of some sort or just an aesthetic like you know putting a a black and white filter on that in those days or whatever like and even me like putting my leather jacket back on like I need I like something that has some sort of uh like I'm too
aware of what's Happening Here and like you need to be able to Identity shift in order to do the role I want to believe I'm a rock star too you know what I mean someone told me once it was so funny uh a girl at a party once told me like you know you're a really bad rock star was like wor you ever to me that's the worst
thing you've ever said to me you cut my identity into a million pieces oh it was perfect though I was like yeah and I kind of love that too I'm like yeah yeah that's that that that's kind of good that's kind of good you nailed it you know trying to think of the great rock stars I mean this still a few around I mean you know you you hard pressed to
get past Liam I mean he still is that guy he still walks down whenever Liam Gallagher walks into the studio and it's kind enough to talk to me he'll walk down that this little pathway we're just on a slope and everybody feels the same way right we all just F bro that's how you do it yeah no he's he's too quick he's too quick yeah it's
sharp as um one of the you know what I think it's a good time to ask this I've never really gotten to the bottom of it and maybe there's no bottom but how do the boys really feel about this kind of interesting relationship that you've developed as a band with and your own personal Ambitions I know the guys do other things too but the
neighborhood entered into the environment such a strong bond it felt like this is a band to get behind and we did and we know it still is but you have like you said been on this wild solo like hike you've been on a long hike and you've covered a lot of ground and climbed a lot of places to get to this place and I sort of Wonder sort of how
the band how that has been as a sort of overarching generality with the band um watching you go off and and needing to do this stuff while they are still the neighborhood I met the guys well like we all grew up in like a you know kind of a small town and there was like local music scene local like like hardcore metal music scene we all kind of played
in and we met each other through playing in like different bands and then I quit playing in that band and started doing my my my my own thing yeah that had nothing to do with that genre of music yeah and then we remained friends and then eventually we started jamming together but I had my own thing going and it was just like a side thing that I
did with with them and then the the side thing you know turned into what it did and even at the beginning while we were recording our first CP like the plan was like all right cool I'm going to do my own thing and this thing like Kirk who you've know you know and I've been with since the beginning yeah put the man and
manager yes absolutely he does but like uh you know that was the plan until it was like you know what maybe we'll just focus on this thing and then we did and even still like you know I put out this is like my what third or fourth solo project project that I've done um so it's always just kind of been this way so you know you ask how they feel
they're like they're truly you know just supportive and always understanding there's there's never been a moment where I've ever felt like they were like man like hurry up get back here we go here goes Jess doing his thing no it's like it's not it's not really like that you know and I think sometimes the time apart you know distance makes the
heart grow fonder right so like we just are able to appreciate each other more I know it makes me appreciate the band way more and my role in it and the success in it um or of it rather and like it's so much in the best way it's so much easier and like for a long time I was making it more difficult than I needed
to be but like dude I'm like one of five people in a thing Play Your Role and do the best you can just show up yeah like and it's it's fine like it's it's all good it's just really a blessing so no you're right I think I think when people go out and do things on their own there's a freedom that comes with it to be able to just follow your creative
dreams and your Visions without any kind of compromise and compromise is great but obviously you don't want to do it all the time but the flip side of that and I've experienced this personally and I've seen lots of my friends go through it too is that it's a different weight it's a different weight on your shoulders it's you know you got to
answer all the questions you got to figure out the timings you got to be got to you got to be responsible for letting it go you have to make the decisions to make the decisions everybody at the end is like so Jess are you ready what what do you want to do here years are you ready you know I don't know what I want
to do that's my problem yeah yeah yeah but you found your way here was it hard to get to the end of this recording process and and let it go or were you dying to let it go uh not dying to Let It Go but by the end of it I was definitely like all right like yeah just be I mean I made Five albums to get to this one in like all different styles
and as I've always done like you know and for me it's kind of I kind of formed a different band in order to do this one and get it done yeah it's a real Common Thread through this there's a couple of things that are surprising on here like Spirit wanted definitely lean into the more kind of um what I would say the more U modern software
based type environment there's a but even though the drums are programmed and feel very sort of hip-hop and a lot of it at least kind of classic Timeless hip-hop like it's very sort of instant vintage Soul through a lot of this record yeah I mean it's funny those I don't know if you mentioned these on purpose those two dahi worked on right
and and then yeah but then Henry kapus who did the rest of the record and Michael Harris um kind of came together yeah and and a lot of that vintage Soul Vibe you're talking about I think comes from Henry it's just like leaning into the more like I guess R&B parts of how I write yeah um and you know Henry really gravitates more towards that and kind of
like you know lifted me up and and pushed me in that direction okay let's just get into the concept of writing about relationships and how challenging is it to be honest in that environment to truly be honest to yourself and also and to have self-awareness about your own role in the breakdown of relationships um but also you know to
write about other people as well and walk that line between what is only personal to you and will become public to everybody else is it hard to do as a writer yeah depending on you know I mean I get to be an example and that's all I think any artist gets to be so it dep you know I hear a lot of people say things in certain ways
that like I'm like maybe maybe this is a I'm I'm too much of a pushover sometimes but like I'm I'm or maybe this is because of my experiences or some of um the assumptions that have been made about me which we're not going there but I'm just talking about the concept when you're on the other side of it I'm just saying you want I want to see things from every
single angle like I want to be able to most of my songs might start out in a place where like I don't like finger pointing music if I'm ever going to point a finger I'm always going to like end up in front of a mirror by the end of it yeah and like put it back on me yeah it's an exercise in bit in understanding yourself is what you're
saying yeah that's what that is to me no better as like a proper it's having a proper word with yourself well and also like I'm always going to maybe go towards the side of especially nowadays like like where truth is so relative I'm just kind of like maybe I'm wrong maybe I am wrong and like I I just am not going to have so much
self-conviction to be like no I'm right I know maybe I'm not and I just didn't ever realize it and I'm like just trying to listen and taking that perspective get a little kind to yourself as well right cuz at the end of the day man you know you come out there and you you know you're on display you're in front of people people admire
you because of your talent and what you do with the band and stuff and so you want to present the best version of yourself you want to be a bad rock star right you want to present the best bit version of yourself and be and come across like a good person but man everybody can be a dick sometimes everybody right and that's what that
that song is great because it's just like okay I guess there are times when I am the same because we are all have the capacity to be the same yeah I thought I was I thought I could be an exception yeah nope that's that's not going to happen you know so where's the growth in the in those realizations you know how does it help you move on and and be
better at relationships and be better at doing things like do you do you find that writing songs about things like that allows you to better understand yourself I mean usually I'm not thinking how something's going to affect me or somebody else later especially if I'm like really you know out of love and passion in a moment and then time goes
by and you see how maybe it did affect somebody else or like maybe they didn't say it in the moment but they come to you later and they're like yo remember when you said this thing M yeah well this is this really made me feel this way and I'm sitting there like oh like I was just like you know me like I just
like talk too much and I say everything and like I might have said that but I also said this thing and you remember and it's like you know kind of learning to choose your words and uh be a little bit more delicate thoughtful with your thoughtfulness man it's trick it's a real discipline it's a real discipline especially when you know
you're in a situation where an enormous part of what of what drives you is to express yourself so you're not just going to do that on song you're going to be expressive throughout your life it's like it's expression it's what you do you're an expressive human being um what do you are there times when you're when you're not expressive because you also
have I've always felt Jesse and as long as I've known you a long long time now that there is an insula side of you that you keep to yourself that you are quite comfortable tucking yourself away and not being expressive and and having Solitude yeah now more so I I feel that way I think some of it's just out of fear um fear of being on your own well it
used to be more fear of being on my own now I'm I'm fear I'm fearful of being taken advantage of my vulnerability yeah because I've only ever told my truth and um that can it it doesn't really matter because if somebody else wants to say something else and that gets uh is louder in volume than what your truth is then my
truth doesn't really matter anymore this is a big thing that's coming up in a lot of conversations with with artists that I love and admire me too yeah which is that um it's getting really challenging and tough to be vulnerable through your art at the moment because the repercussions of being truthful um once
you release the music is that it just becomes Chum in the water it's just it's fodder it's just stuff to pour over and pull apart and it's always been like that but but that was what you did in the privacy of your own home or in your own space now it's it's it's very hard to not be accessible you have to literally not turn anything on or be
around anyone or be outside to not be exposed depending on the scale of how visible you are and how popular you are right so it it I'm trying to figure out how we can kind of support as fans not just in terms of our job here at Apple but as as fans and how we can be better fans if that makes sense because I would hate
the disconnection to affect the relationship between the artist and the fan and affect you and there's a point here like how far am I willing to go in my songs when the repercussions are just too great to imagine like do I really want to have answer to that for the next 10 years well what's frustrating do sense yeah it totally makes sense what's
what's frustrating to me is that like I I've trying to feel like you're to try to feel like you're explaining yourself for something that you've already explained but then somebody else uh interpreted in a way that isn't how you meant it and then you're in a loop at that point yeah cuz it's it's just like I mean you could even hear it in my
voice and maybe in my in my character you have known me for a long time but I feel a bit like at this at this point because like yeah when you've only fully expose yourself and been so honest and then it gets turned into something else that it just wasn't or people put um string things together and and make a puzzle or
make a story that that they want to believe which I don't blame them either like like look at all the stories we hear every single day about all these figures and people and politicians and artists and everything that you find you know there's a lot of them going on right now where it's like you know 20 years ago by like you know this was
actually happening like I don't blame anybody for actually thinking that whatever I'm telling them isn't the full truth right right I wouldn't BL I don't blame anybody I don't believe anything anybody's saying or showing me like you know but I'm also like I think the past couple years have like I've lost so much hope in people but I've gained so much
empathy because if you're on the other side of of you know and listen wow that's crazy I'm just putting that together that's a powerful statement I've never heard those words in that order yeah I've lost hope in people but I've discovered a sense of empathy that's um really sad yeah we don't know anything man and like everybody's out
here like fearful for their lives acting like they know something like sorry and I know it's it's it's it's too that's too too big yeah like I I I'm happy everybody doesn't think the way that I do but like it's a it's a it's not the best place to be honest it's it's wow man I mean I listen you've made some really powerful observations there and
um and it's so funny because the sound of the record and again music is just lited with these wonderful contradictions of hopeful music and sad realization The Smiths ladies and gentlemen yeah you know I had to contrast it somehow dude um we know you as as Jesse from the neighborhood or Jesse Rutherford now we know you as
Jesse um and the r is I love the way you did it I love the way you trademarked it it's cool man I mean it's just like of course that makes total sense um and we thought we were gonna be get get both Jesse the the artist with Jesse the album and then here at Apple music we got this last minute Switcheroo and it's wanted question mark so um what prompted
the name change and because I mean doesn't that doesn't happen it's rare that people switch it at the last minute I know I mean look if you could do that now so like if you actually look at the songs as they go up on our metadata right now we're still figuring it out if not it's gone but it's still Jesse Jessie so we're still figing out how to
get this wanted thing into that thing which is going to happen oh like through parts of it yeah on the main page it's it's still it's how you want it yeah yeah yeah wanted um you broke Apple bro congrats there you go Kanye thought he could do it sorry buddy um no but yeah first of all you can do that nowadays
which is awesome like Charlie did it she changed all of her artwork to brat related I know and it's really cool cool right yeah I I saw I I was telling a couple buddies about that the other day and they were like wait really and they looked they're like yeah it's cool I mean it's so it's so cool and to do it with like a tight face and like I saw
her the other day and I bought that up and she just cracked up laughing she just thinks it's fun no it's awesome yeah you get to do that yeah you know what I mean like if you have a regret you could you could change it a little bit you know what I mean your own history a little bit I've done I've done a couple of them and then and I know
sometimes my my audience gets a little bit uh annoyed at that but I don't know but we want it too though the unpredictability is a part of the the frustrating relationship that we actually still want in our life why did you make the change though what is why did you CU there's a song on the album called wanted um and you're called Jesse
so why did you choose the song over the name the self-titled thing just seemed first of all not as like well what's weird about being a solo artist that uses just my name is like when I think about making merchandise like making merchandise that just says my name on it icky yeah just like who I don't know I don't who wants to really I don't I
don't know I I don't know how much I like that so I like having like things to be able to like you know brand I guess um I've said before I'm really just a creative director that kind of learned how to sing and write songs oh my God you're in the right era look at Charlie she's like she's like a CEO of a creative marketing company basically who
also happens to be a sick sick Superstar yeah and stuck with it for a really long time to her vision and has paid off like you get it greatly no it's incredible everybody gets it consistent you know yeah and took her time just like taken yours you know did it feel like 3 years no too much fun yeah sure uh yeah it
just goes by so fast this time thing and I'm just kind of like yeah like sometimes there's songs you know some of the songs on this album I wrote five years ago or like started and didn't really do anything with like I'm just overwhelmed with different ideas uh that I have backlogged I don't have a computer I haven't in years and I'm so
happy about that you have a computer no because it it cuts off like so many ideas that like I can never even think about anymore cuz I'm like I don't even have I don't you know my oldu you're literally just doing voice memos and just then you take them in you develop them from there or like yeah phone and uh iPad like I love I'm a garage band
guy right so you know I I just I think it's a great dah and then you know I have other people that I go to that turn the ideas into so you worried if you had a computer You' get just lost in your own creative like thrash just like 150 things on that you never finish for sure cuz i' I've done that and also just like
I like less stuff if I can you know what I mean I I like um like limitations and and stuff does that carry over into your lifestyle are you a fing cat do you have less as more in your house not enough it's pretty embarrassing I still haven't figured out how to like put together a home I have like all I have is clothes like I just have way too many clothes
and it's so confusing would it be safe to say your house is somewhat barren no I mean like you know I have the essentials uh sound like such a dude right now I'm like I got a couch on TV like there's a little more than that and it's like dude wres yeah exactly um I'm the first one that should be streaming that right now right or the last one
rather um the last one but no it's nobody would do by the way they're big decisions to me like clothing are just like if I buy it and I never wear it or I wear it once or whatever or like it's just like they're smaller but like the think of like you know you sound like a hoard J see this I mean the picture you're
painting is kind of desperate well I don't collect anything else so all my memories are with my clothes like I could look at like a pair of shoes and be like yo laal laaloa 2004 you know what I mean like I that's how I like remember things um but yeah like home things are such it took me I've lived in my place for two years now it took me a
year and eight months to get a sofa what were you sitting on I had a different couch but it just wasn't the one you know what I mean like I mean ended up just with like a big black leather couch and it's awesome oh but it's like so simple you know like I thought I wanted like do you sit on it with your Lether jacket on this is like some 80s
like Sunset stri green that's how I get ready for this interview sther on leather leather on leather believe it believe it that's what you got to do is you got to make yourself a heavy metal record next or at some point leather on leather I mean I got I got a I got a heavy project it's only put on my le exactly all right so you're the singer
I'll figure out how to program the drums or something just anyway I was singing over the the exclusive you were given me with you are making a heavy project I have I have a project with a couple friends yeah but it's we haven't put it on streaming yet but yeah thanks um you you'll get it soon I'm excited so okay you want to go play these songs
live because you know it's not that you're going to pump this pump the algorithms with this thing and I respect that and by the way you're not alone more and more people are walking away from that experience I think that's part of the generational turnover now as the people are like okay if it's random and I have to fill it just to get them with
a shot of being noticed maybe I just fill it when I want to fill it I just don't think it's in my control yeah like it's not it's definitely not and by the way there was a time when I joined and and it felt like you could it felt like there was actually like little things oh I know how to get this in front of

political of the world yeah in real time heavy so you're going to go and play these songs live getting back to my question which is you're going to go play these songs live you are going to tour this thing well I would yeah I mean that's that's I would like to you know I there's been a lot of talks about how to go about that did it feel good the shows
and reading a leads and stuff did it feel cool yeah parts of it did you know um I really love playing the new ones like uh and it's fun doing neighborhood stuff too of course because like you know play sweer weather you're going to get that honestly luckily dude kind of Lucky like I like doing that one so like I did it at
reading but the rest of the shows I didn't do that one but I play like I played softcore which is like one that has came up you know back to that conversation like we don't even have a Tik Tok but it keeps coming back well I mean everything I mean the band is like I think five times bigger than when we went on a break you know a few years ago
so didn't you like step off the road at the Hollywood ball yeah that was the last show we played yeah yeah it's it's incredible it's a listen but it's also comes down to like you keep showing up with great music and at the end of the day if you keep feeding us with stuff that we love we're going to stay loyal we may go and listen
to other things that may be the hot new thing I may be over here but it's not like I'm not going to be excited when the neighborhood come back I'm going to be really excited when the neighborhood comes it's pretty cool I feel like I can view it almost as a fan now with my time away also and uh yeah it does it does
kind of feel like that in in a really special way there must be a sense of relief there for that in terms of we talked when we began this conversation bringing it full cycle the fear that you felt as a young person trying to figure out whether I could hold on to this thing the fear of time do I have enough of it can I make the most of it it's
totally understandable I think anybody of a certain age who kind of knows what they want is driven by the fear of what if I get it and then what if I lose it right and now it must be nice to get to a point in your life where I guess what you're in your early 30s where you're able to sit down and go it's going to be cool like the band's there and we're
good yeah I have a foundation yeah like you know it's uh the house yeah I'm feeling the benefits of it like really only started happening the last couple years where it's like you know cuz in a weird way this is kind of a paycheck to paycheck industry oh it's not even weird statement it totally is that's why people get back that's why bands get
back together sure yeah there used to be a list of about 150 bands everyone was waiting to reunite and now there's three on there no Oasis have just reformed now there's two on there I can think of The Smiths White Stripes whoa maybe one or two others that I'm missing But like everyone else is like come back into the fall because
yeah it's great to play and you want to go hang with your friends and you want to go and get back together but also it's paycheck to paycheck you can't live on records and you're not touring forever very few people maybe not forever but I'll tell you right now I am and it's working and that's awesome it's wild because for so long that absolutely
wasn't what was happening it was only touring you know for us not that that's a bad thing it's that's an amazing gift that we get to be able to have to have the opportunity to do any of this stuff but like in the age of streaming like we're like it's wild and what's cool about that as well is that in some kind of magical beautiful
contradiction the real reason for this is because Tik Tok discovered the song it's awesome it's the best no really I do think as far as social media goes um it's the most I've smiled on social media in years like there's a lot of funny stuff and it's made me more social with my friends I'm not usually like a much of a texter or like a group chat
person but it's it's it's uh it's made me way more social with my buddies and then and then you know you watch something I don't have I'm feel like an idiot explaining it how it works but you watch one thing and then it gets into your algorithm awesome because things that I would have never like you know looked into or whatever like now I have
on my feet I'm like oh this is hilarious all those ad workouts are working out for you man all all those Fitness cardio workouts in 5 minutes man I want it to work for me better personally with my with my promoting my Stu but other than that I I can't I can't lie I like what they're doing fans will want to know man
they'll be upset if I don't ask you know this album hopefully we're going to get shows it's a beautiful body of work it's days old it's called wanted look for Jesse the cover's Great really cool moving images on Apple music by the way as well looking adorable um but they'll want to know like uh where you are with the guys and
you know Hollywood ball seems like yesterday and also seems like ages ago yeah for real so what's the what's the sort of move without distracting from this project what's the what's the hope I love my friends and I and I I miss hanging out and you know when we started we were all you know teenagers living in the same neighborhood and uh hanging out
every single day and you know going to shows and going in and out and playing soccer in the parking lot or whatever else we us to just hanging out all the time and you know you grow up and you have your own lives and uh every time we get together it just feels like like home you know not to be punny at all but like it really it really does and you
know the holidays are coming up and I feel like just want to be with my family and those guys are like my family so definitely going to be spending some good time with yeah and I feel like you know there's always a um we're we like being creative with each other I like that's most of my relationships are creative relationships
if I don't feel like I'm building something with you then I don't know I don't maybe I'm not the best at at being in in a relationship you know what I mean I want to create something so that's usually where my head's at I love that great answer thank you very much we look forward to whatever it is that you and the boys get back together and
