lovely to see you as well it's a blessing to just be able to have another conversation like you know I really I stack them up in my life and I I never take them for granted and I never taken music for granted and it's really nice to feel that you don't either which is why you've been sort of celebrating this 10-year anniversary of an album that's super important to you yeah man that has been crazy I'm
not gonna lie I said uh it kind of just brought back um just everything from that time and some of like the uh some of the ambiguity that's what I think really like stuck out to me can you define that a little more clearly from your perspective yeah because I love that word but what does it mean to you on that album I was 18. I was trying to figure it out they were like you're the big rapper like make an
album because people forget the anticipation for that album was so off the charts and for reasons you couldn't control for reasons that were genuinely important to your mum she made a decision for your well-being and everyone thought it was a marketing move yeah yeah bro crazy I think that's why I think part of that album was a deliberate um like shot in the parachute or in like the foot
because it was too the the name the whatever it was too big for me at the time yeah because I did I was 18 years old right it was like what was putting like a thing on me and it was like I don't even know if I have that much to say right now yeah like I can I I had the ability to manipulate words and like play with words and stuff but in terms of content I was 18 years old
so now that how do you know if I can ask 29 so you're 29 so okay 10 11 years on how does that album feel to you now how is it aged from your perspective um I have a lot of clarity on it now uh I can my favorite way to sort the songs on that album Now is ones that I wrote before I had even got back because those are my least favorite um because like any that gets sent away to something you just have one
million bars loaded up yeah for when you get out of the thing you're like bro you got a beat yeah you are for sure this is fire yeah yeah yeah yeah we out of here like I understand what you're saying it doesn't know why I think we might have talked about this ages ago briefly about the idea of the album two parts that there was this kind of you're anticipating the moment when you would
record it and then there was the stuff that was very present when you when you got back the people you put you know yourself around the fact that you harnessed a lot of the production duties yourself and didn't just hand it over to a bunch of B makes and say send me hot tracks and I'll jump on it whatever I still think I was figuring all of that out so it was if you look at um that album there's like a combination
of all of that yeah there's like my first beats on there that I just cannot stand right now what's the oldest feet on there what's the oldest I'm trying to start it off with that Chum I can't get jiggy with this my Adam Levine about the lettuce I'm saying we make different music don't worry about Maroon 5 they're just fine you don't need Adam Levine Maroon 5 respect love do you think you were trying to live up
to somebody's idea of what your identity was if this is what you truly were feeling in that moment you know what I mean almost playing a role oh maybe I feel like uh maybe I was doing that but what makes it like actually embarrassing is that you're a kid do you know what I'm saying so think about your like ideas about the world and kind of like what things are when you're a kid
like my idea of being like the rapper guy then was like let's get you know I mean let's get some of these four syllable words in here yeah let's get some of these that's what we all identified with as rap fans and music fans when you all came out was that you were searching for new ways to say things and you were finally trying to find new ways to paint pictures and it was an abstract nature to the way you
and your friends were approaching it it wasn't just straight down the line that's what drew a lot of people in and the contrast of what you were doing off the mic which was just like living hard and videoing it having the most fun and being kids and then the music was almost a direct reaction to that it was like way more complicated than I think people were expecting when the record started
happening you know what I mean I think that's kind of what people were drawn to Polly I guess the the love for myself comes in at understanding that it's all a part of the process yeah and I think I guess the only thing I don't I don't regret any part of you know uh making proc like coming from point A to point D or whatever I think it's having to do that in front of the world everyone else got
to have their first it's on a USB it's it's thrown away in the trash can of some like weird computer my exists exists for real you're supposed to change and evolve the music's supposed to sound weird to you the older you get yeah for sure yeah it would be really weird to be like man I wish I could make Doris again yeah like right when we was 17 downhill from there man like damn man yeah
so how are the crowd reactions to the shows because that's a whole other relationship to that record for you um you can feel like you want to feel about it but you can't deny how other people feel about it New York was super turn I want to say Chicago was super turn la I love you la but LA but it was practically an odd future Reunion yeah I mean if a show was a reunion though it was like
and I I was speaking for myself but I felt it too was like all right like I could tell to everyone before they came out that night to the thing was like well all right we're about to go on over here it's like you're about to go see everybody from from that life yeah from life from Life right that's the thing I thought it was beautiful because um you know we hold all that that time in
our in our hearts in a big way and we love the eye and the creativity you continue to create but I love the fact it just felt very genuine from the footage I saw and what and all the reviews I saw and everyone oh it just felt cool for sure I'm if people were happy then I'm happy I just am with a lot of the from Doris it was like at the risk of the sounding redundant it's like I'm really not even that
anymore I know but in a way you get to play the you get to kind of make peace with that kid again for sure but I did I've already done that but yeah yeah Me by myself I've Loved on that person and everything so yeah some some parts of it felt like karaoke yes well that's what anniversary shows are you are you go you put it on a pair of shoes you haven't worn in a very long time
this is what I'm saying right reasonable doubt he was 28 like 26 26. I think I think bro can come out all the from when I was 26. I won't come out for I it was 26 when I said this my was developed yeah my frontal lobe like yeah yeah it's frontal lobe bars after 26 it's you know getting up before 2 p.m in your 18. that's what I'm saying it's like how did it reasonable doubt Jonathan be loving actually we see when how
to do the Reasonable Doubt constantly be like do you hear that I said this but but he was but he's also been rapping about being rich fly getting it yeah he was doing that at 26 20 so it's all good yes it's interchangeable it's all good I think that's what you're saying right like your characters changed yeah no character but like no it's developed I hope that is the I was 18 years old I'm
about to be 30 if I didn't develop yeah yeah Penitentiary go to jail I don't know move around yeah it would be super weird if I had the same I don't know y'all tell me man that's a problem with a lot of people though like what's what you're saying about your music a lot of people in life don't grow like they still want to be the person they were like in high school when they were hot and you shouldn't be
the same person in any aspect at 29 then you were at 18. you've made some tough decisions and and made albums that are very insular and inward to try and find the answers man it's like that's why your audience we love you so much is because we've been on that ride with you as fans man thank you bro you know I love the way that you kind of um you pay tribute in beautiful Strokes
like the way you paint your pictures is like a beautiful stroke you know and then the way you talk about your mum like counting the ways that my mum smile makes me happy like yeah and then the next line is like I think it's like uh and the best one is it just does or something like that I'm sorry if I'm paraphrasing no yeah it is for sure and it's just it's awesome how you've sort
of continued to kind of draw real life those real feelings and moments into your verses um I've never asked you how you kind of put it together and I don't know if I really should because it's kind of magic I'm sure but you are so unique in the way you you perform and present your music like does it just come to you do you write as you feel it are you always writing like how do you compose I'm
always yeah it's a you know input output I'm always listening so that I can put something out music makes me hope music helps me make sense of the world so and so you observe you observing all the time I'm observing I'm in taking so that to you know influence my output are you an empathetic person do you feel quite deeply things that go on around you I'm the most sensitive
that's outside I'm not gonna lie to you the world can be a tough place for people like because I feel the same way and I wouldn't say no that's what I was saying outside to them I was like What if I went in there as ain't low sat down just started profusely crying right now I swear to God if I just sat down first question dry open profusely crying ten minutes you know what's really crazy though and this team
will definitely they'll they'll they'll they'll back me up on this I am getting more emotional in this in this experience uh it used to be so so much of a trade it'd be like you know it'd be like no sweatshirts here let's talk about the album so 14 songs how many songs you make for the album and uh who'd you produce on the album it's fantastic let's play one yeah and this was like oh my man and now as as life
kind of as I'm getting moving on in my life and I'm starting to realize there's so much spirit and magic and intangible quality to this whole process that we haven't discovered and the only way we can is by talking to people like you I find my eyes do like I do get emotional in this place hell yeah for sure how long did it take for you to realize you were sensitive because most people don't
know they're sensitive they have to figure it out oh nah I knew I was sensitive I knew that I would oh no I've gone through ups and downs with it I feel like in my childhood I was incredibly sensitive because that could turn an anger too and that's yo dog that's that's what I've had to unpack as an adult yeah it's like as a child I had it bruh as a child I had like the get mad heart to the throat
face hot yeah I've had like yeah yeah yeah face hot yeah like yeah oh my God yo that's crazy and then I went away the most intensive therapeutic like boarding school ever learned like therapy stuff then came out of the thing like how to sense of self and then self-identified through my early 20s and like mid-20s as like a chill guy like and then especially with the emotional intelligence like I'm like
yeah I'm a chill guy and then A Series of Unfortunate Events like rained on me and that chillness got called the out because then I found out I really found out how sensitive I was again yeah yeah well it's due to life's work that's the thing yeah nothing gets fixed all you do is you develop ways to acknowledge it in the moment I look at its face right when you're a kid the amount of space between
something that upsets you and your ability to acknowledge is this big and everything in between is Rage right yeah even at this stage yes because they can't yes take some 15 minutes to stop crying right with your kids like babies like all of us then as you start to get a better understanding yourself nothing gets resolved but then but I think the space gets shorter and
shorter so soon something happens and it's just to there and you're like oh I'm so okay yeah let me figure this out I got other tools in the Box I can use here yeah I feel like it really comes down to the physical act of breathing so because you're talking about the heart goes up into that throat and your gets caught up and then you just you actually be like my wife calls me on all the time we'll
be sitting there watching television or sitting outside it should be like are you even breathing because I'm such I just forget to breathe and she's like just take a breath no I feel you I'll be smoking huge weed and grab a dog it would be like 4 P.M I'd be like oh yeah okay existential crisis it's like I think you just need to drink some water and breathe like we gonna be okay
I find the same though when I'm being sensitive if I find my like tempered like welling up it's the same if I can catch it like on the way up and you gotta catch it problem is you can escalate something because it's a you problem and now you're interpreting everything wrong dog my one of this I always use it as my my reference because I never saw it uh visually represented like this
it was the one Rick and Morty episode where they come where the parents are coming back from out of town it's the classic like don't up the house yeah they throw a party at the house then the Rick freezes time so they can clean the house while the parents is on the way back when he unfreeze his time he quickly tells them like yo all right I'm about to unfreeze the we about to come back but y'all
gotta be sure y'all stuff he's like if y'all aren't sure y'all stuff then Your Existence is going to be iffy yeah and then they're like what do you mean and they're teenagers who are defined by iffy iffy insecurities yeah yeah for sure like iffy time being split so then it inevitably happens and then their reality yeah and then their person is split between these two things and both of the person now the
anxiety is like a little more now you're like scared and then that unsure then it splits again and then it's and then before you know it there's just like infinite and I feel like that's what the this really be doing to us bro like the assault kind of on your uh if your ego can't handle like you know what I mean that you might need to humble yourself in a moment and be like
I'm wrong like this emotional reaction doesn't it's not warranted you know I talked a little bit about the reflections that you continue to share with us as fans about your personal life about your mum how important that is what what's your what kind of conversations do you have with your mom now or somebody who recognized that you're what you had to offer as a human being was not being honored by Youth and by
these the environment that you found yourself in so she removed you from that allowed you to get more in touch with yourself come back and that Journey has continued to the point now where you're a father an artist and doing the work and a proactive person for yourself and those you love so I'd imagine that the conversations you have with your mum now are just heads like the Glorious
incredible yeah I think the thing I was talking about even just off off air right now watching my mom process that has been uh I guess really Illuminating to me too just watching my mom process an adult child watching her kind of over these over my adulthood kind of realize what you said which is like I'm on my journey and been watching my mom kind of as she kind of could see that I was either safe or that there was
nothing she could do about it [Music] that is like there's one of the two it's one of those two and by the way the safety thing to some degree is still even when you feel like you have the most perceived control is still an illusion yeah at the end of the day if as you continue to grow as a person and your children or the people you stood in your life if you're lucky enough to guide
others they grow as well the better you get at understanding that you really have no control yeah it's hard yeah hard Faith man it's interesting isn't it you know we start out kind of following our passions and doing our stuff and really just kind of leaning into what we love and then building a life around it and then you start having life within your life and talking about you being a dad Alchemist being a dad
finding a way but it doesn't mean you know you leave the passion at the door when you go outside it how does it affect the way that you've approached what you love to do which is make music and make art and continue to build How's being a parent affected that experience better or worse I think the age that I had my son at was a blessing I was young I am young but not so young yeah
um and it kind of hasened my uh some of my adulthood because yeah some of my purpose for sure and that's just like that's life and art imitates life so this just like it it didn't it cornered me into having to be stronger like take care of different aspects of my health not to be weirdly kind of uh surface about it but you look really healthy like thank you I I started my health Journey like earlier
in this year would that entails I worked on myself now we know right now we know why he did the 10-year anniversary Dara shows because he's spending all his money at arawan the show I would tell y'all where I actually be going but I'm not trying to see y'all over there same time give us the game no no no I'll tell y'all when we get off you do you tell people you work out all the
time I do because I work out yeah I do I do I don't yeah I do I go to a gym five six mornings every every week blocks live for it love it I think yeah I mean the crew probably want me to talk about it more because it's good you know good for the yeah plug the folks I can't man no you don't you can't get everybody there it's I'm show sworn by secrecy in my gym my is you gotta take a Blood

because it genuinely felt like a celebration of of domogenesis but also it there is kind of a bit of an Avengers thing going on here with an alchemist Studio where there's like he's got his regular collaborators he loves to work with and you love to work with him and and that song in particular with Vince who shows up on the on the new album with you and Alchemist twice only guess I think for
memory that really shows up um and you and action who obviously love action um just feels like a unit can you give us a little more insight from being inside that room without what it's like when everyone's kind of hanging around just creating in that space because it just feels like the most fun thing you could ever do it is fun as hell especially then too from when that track
is from that's like like 2012 2013 Elimination Chamber wow yeah so that was like the beginning of a that was the beginning of rap camp wow yeah that was like that would be like 45 rappers yes yeah it was good that's the I mean the reason why I gravitated to out so much is because um I was privileged in not having that much experience in weird Studio sessions I had only just come from of and that
was that type of environment like 10 rappers highly competitive yeah like openly competitive yeah I I love that so it was it was like that at Alex too it's just a different chemistry yeah to get the pack to get the fire the fire is still lit but it's just what's Fanning the flames right like I was a I was a athlete that's where it comes from like as a kid I was like martial arts crazy skateboard and
all this hooping I hadn't really hooped for a while part of my health Journey this year I started by hooping again um and I like there was one really like before and after day towards the beginning when I started back hooping again dude checked up to bother me I got the ball and then I went into the mode that I used to be in when I was like a little kid like this like I'm about
to disrespect and I was like kind of reading the room and realizing it's not that that is not how adults play basketball dog like we actually out here just having a good time yeah like get your off if you need to get your little off but yeah yeah there's no Championship here like this is a bunch of adult at 11 15 a.m on a Tuesday man like this is not that serious hey um listen congrats on the new album with
