Chili Klaus Faces the Most Extreme Hot Ones Ever

0:00

Woah, this finished up.

0:00

Maybe this was Maybe we put a little too much on. Yeah, maybe.

0:11

Hey, what's going on everybody?

0:11

From First We Feast, I'm Sean Evans, and today we say so long to season 4 of Hot Ones.

0:17

At long last, I'm joined at the table by my hill running partner, Chili Klaus.

0:22

You know him as the Michael Jordan of internet chili eating, the sultan of scovilles, the man who never met a Carolina Reaper he couldn't snap his way through.

0:30

Chili Klaus, my hot pepper brother in arms, welcome to the table. It's long overdue. Thank you very much.

0:36

It's a pleasure to be here.

0:38

And to the Hot Ones fans out there, this probably looks like a typical setup, a familiar thing going on.

0:43

We have the wings, we have the sauces, we have the water, we have the milk, we have a guest.

0:49

But when Chili Klaus is in town, you know we have to crank the thing up to 14.

0:54

It's the double black diamond of the wings of death.

0:57

Chili Klaus, are you game? Yeah.

1:20

Now, what we have here are five pepper mashes, okay?

1:22

The super hots came from our friend Smokin' Ed Curry this morning, and then Noah made it in the back.

1:28

So, these are fresh, no [ __ ] no frills.

1:31

It's a chicken wing gauntlet unlike any other. Do not try this at home. This is so exciting.

1:44

I've never tried this before.

1:46

It's a first for me as well. Okay.

1:49

Milk can be very good afterwards, but I don't think it fits in a in a in a show. Well, listen.

1:54

When Chili Klaus is in town, it's Chili Klaus's rules, Schönberger.

1:58

We got to lose this stuff. I regret this.

2:02

Let me just take The milk is gone, regrettably.

2:08

So, this first one is a serrano chili.

2:11

So, you have some vinegar, you have some salt, yeah, you have some butter just to make it stick to the wing, but otherwise, we're just straight pepper with this one. cool. Let's Let's try it.

2:31

A A little bit more spicy than I expected uh for a serrano, but Me as well, Chili Klaus.

2:39

But uh We're going places today, my friend. We always do.

2:42

So, Chili Klaus, you're our friend and you're a familiar face to the audience here at First We Feast.

2:46

And to our audience, we've talked about the origin story of Hot Ones a million times, but we've never discussed yours, Chili Klaus.

2:54

How did eating peppers become your life's mission?

2:59

I've loved chili peppers all my life, and I had a gig on a little island for 2 months.

3:03

And when you have a gig on an island, you can't come home every day, so I brought all my chili peppers with me, and I put up a camera and eat a chili pepper and put it on the internet, and boom, uh after that day, I was uh Chili Klaus.

3:18

When you first started putting videos on the internet, did you read the comments, Chili Klaus?

3:22

What do you feel like when people say rude things? Does it make you upset? Yeah.

3:28

No, I'm getting used to it.

3:28

I saw the interview you had with Ricky Gervais, and he said something, as I remember, it's like a person going, "Here's a guitar lesson.

3:36

You don't have to open the door into the guitar lesson uh uh room AND SAY, 'NO, I DON'T WANT A GUITAR LESSON.'" JUST PASS ON.

3:45

Why do you think you get so many politicians on your show?

3:47

Because here in the United States, I don't think any politician would have dared sit at the Hot Ones seat.

3:53

I wonder what do you think is different? You know why?

3:56

Because on the first page in the book of politicians says never ever cry on television.

4:01

My first guest was actually the mayor from the city where I come from Aarhus and the first time he was acting like a politician and I said to him, don't be like a politician.

4:12

Be be yourself and he agreed and 10 minutes after he was puking on the lane where I was.

4:17

So it's it's so great and He's still the mayor in in the city where I I live. So that's cool.

4:23

All right Chili Klaus, you ready to move on?

4:25

The next thing is So Ding ding ding ding.

4:35

Here when you're just going with the straight mash, you're going to get a little more kick with a raw product that you wouldn't in a sauce. Yeah.

4:57

You got a little something there. That's my beard, yeah. Chili, I got you. I'm going to be on that.

5:03

So before we lose our tongues today Chili Klaus, I'm hoping that I can get a master class in the Danish language Rosetta Stone lesson from Chili Klaus.

5:13

So I'll give you some phrases and I'm hoping that you can tell me how to say them in Danish. Does that sound good? Yeah, yeah, yeah.

5:19

How do you say, can I have this dish extra spicy?

5:23

Can you have this here hot extra stack?

5:27

Slow it down for me one time.

5:28

Can you Can you for dinner here hot for dinner here hot extra extra stack stack Stack is hot.

5:40

How do you say, excuse me, where is the nearest restroom? It's an emergency.

5:45

Excuse me, where is the nearest toilet? You're doing so good. That's so cool.

6:03

What's the worst Danish swear word that you can teach me without soiling the prestige of the Klaus name? Yeah. It could be Hellville. Yeah, that means damn. Okay. That's the Klaus name.

6:20

Is it Is it too Can I say this?

6:20

Um Yeah, Klaus, I think you're going to get away with that one on this table. Yeah, yeah.

6:27

And then finally, I know that you have a catchphrase that loosely translates to you can feel it in your ears.

6:31

Can you explain that one for me?

6:34

There's some connection between the mouth and your ears.

6:36

And if it's very hot, it goes right to my ears.

6:38

And sometimes to my arms, too, but mostly to my ears. Is that why you snap?

6:46

Remember when you were snapping? Why were you snapping?

6:50

I I think maybe because I I lose control over my body because it's so hot, yeah.

6:55

It starts having its own language, in a way.

6:57

And you can also feel it in your ears, you know? In my neck. Okay. Cheers. This is very good.

7:22

I remember Listen, am I looking good? You look great.

7:29

Ooh, this is Oh, I love the flavor of this one.

7:34

It's a It's definitely not a habanero. No. It's a It's quite spicy.

7:45

Wish I didn't let you uh talk me out of the milk.

7:48

As you know, Klaus, we have this recurring segment called Explain That Gram where we do a deep dive on our guest Instagram. Yeah.

7:53

But with you, we've pulled out some of your great old videos. Okay.

7:58

So, what I'm going to do is I'm going to show you some screenshots of Chili Klaus videos, and you can tell me the story behind the video. Does that sound good? that sound good. Okay. Okay. A water doesn't work? No. All right.

8:14

Tell me what's going on here.

8:16

Feeding peppers to 1,000 people at a festival? No, yeah, yeah, yeah.

8:18

It was at the town center in Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark. I just wrote a book.

8:26

We celebrated it with inviting 1,000 people.

8:28

We We ate the ghost pepper, and it was fantastic.

8:34

There was a big music festival at the same time called Distortion in Copenhagen at that time.

8:39

And they you know, what kind of heavy rock festival or different kinds of And people were running around pretending that they were playing in the heavy rock orchestra because they have eaten a ghost pepper, exactly the same as we did today, but it was fantastic.

8:58

Sounds like a lovely afternoon, Chili Klaus.

8:59

That must have been good. yeah, yeah. Aw. Look at the kitties. Aw, they are so sweet. I love those guys.

9:07

And also I'll say to if there's some parents watching this show, if you for instance are a little bit in doubt of your teenage kid uh if the you know, the testicles are in his What do you call it? In his nut sack.

9:23

Yeah, yeah, nut sack, exactly.

9:23

If you have a little bit of doubt, just give him a Carolina Reaper or a ghost pepper.

9:29

Balls will drop real quick. pop.

9:30

And then you you're you're quite sure that his balls are need nut sack. It's good advice. All right.

9:38

Oh, what's Oh, that's this charming person? That's the Smash Man.

9:44

He is uh a kind of rude character, famous in Denmark, a comedian who Yeah, he's totally crazy uh guy, insulting his audience from the first minute he come in, he just, you know, give the F Oh, can I do that? The F finger.

10:02

Even when the queen visited his show this year, he gave the F finger to the queen.

10:07

He He has no limits at all.

10:07

He's a very, very funny guy.

10:11

Do people ever recognize you from our videos together? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, how does that go? That goes fine. That goes fine.

10:18

People are so friendly and they they they love your show also in Denmark and in in Europe. That's good to hear. Be proud of yourself.

10:25

Tell you should be proud of yourself.

10:26

I'm proud of Your channel has have been come massive since I visited you the first time.

10:31

Blew up a little bit, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

10:32

Shout out to everybody who watches and supports. Thank you very much. You do not go unnoticed. I appreciate you.

10:39

Thank you for keeping me getting out of bed every day and going through this [ __ ] Going through this all the time. It's intimidating.

10:49

Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's beautiful.

10:50

This is the chocolate bootla. Yeah.

10:53

Have you ever had one of these before? Do you like them? I like them very much. Okay.

10:57

Well, you want to have a wing with me? What what what's Yeah.

11:00

You know, a lot of reviewers say that this is even tougher to endure than the Carolina Reaper.

11:04

That's what a lot of people say. That's what I've heard.

11:06

I've heard that it should maybe be as hot as a Carolina Reaper.

11:09

And that's maybe because of the ignition. Cheers. Excuse me, man.

11:33

Listen, I'm no superhero. I'm no superhero. I'm no superhero. I'm no superhero. I'm no superhero.

11:40

So, this is a good time to mention that these peppers are coming from PuckerButt. Yeah. Okay.

11:49

We know it's Smokin' Ed Currie.

11:49

He's the man behind the Carolina Reaper.

11:51

He's the mad scientist behind the Last Dab.

11:53

And then I know that you visited PuckerButt Farms.

11:57

And as I understand it, because Ed told me the story, he had you down in the dirt begging for your life. Yeah.

12:05

Can you draw back the curtain on what it's like when Smokin' Ed Currie and Chili Klaus are walking the grounds at PuckerButt sampling the new harvest?

12:14

It was fantastic, you know.

12:14

I've never seen so many chili peppers.

12:16

I've never seen the workers.

12:19

They had a room where they were I think it's a little slow ignition on this one.

12:27

I think it's a little bit of both.

12:27

I think it's a fast ignition, but then I think the key just keeps turning.

12:33

And the what was I saying about pep- pepper? Ed, Smokin' Ed.

12:39

Smokin' Ed, you said that it was like Valhalla of peppers, and it must have been just like heaven for you, Chili Klaus.

12:45

You saw peppers all over the place.

12:46

Lots of workers, and he had a special area with fences around it to protect the new species from people stealing them.

12:58

What were the events that led up to you being in the dirt kicking and screaming?

13:03

When Carolina Reaper hits you, it really hits you.

13:08

But when a PuckerButt hits you, it also hits you.

13:12

This chocolate thing it doesn't taste anything like chocolate, am I right? Anything like chocolate. Anything like chocolate. Anything like chocolate. Anything like chocolate. Oh, okay. Look at it. Oh, yeah. All right, chilly Klaus.

13:31

Oh, [ __ ] Nice to be here at your show.

13:36

Kind of are at the end of the road.

13:41

And what we have here is a very special delivery from Smokin' Ed Curry, okay?

13:49

This is the first time that this has left the farm.

13:51

This mash is made with the Carolina Reaper, which as it's described to me, was supposed to be way hotter than a red reaper. Okay, interesting.

14:02

And I think similar with our chocolate bootla over here, they say chocolate, but doesn't taste like chocolate.

14:08

And my guess is that this Carolina Reaper is going to taste nothing like caramel. Okay.

14:17

As you know, it's traditional around here to dab the last wing.

14:18

What we have here is a little something called reaper blood. Okay.

14:23

It's a patent pending, let me see if I get this right, Noah.

14:26

It's a patent pending exclusive distillation process, it's never left the farm.

14:34

This is hot as [ __ ] too, right? How hot is this, Noah?

14:38

It's hot as [ __ ] It's hot as [ __ ] Okay.

14:41

So, just a little just a little drop will do you, sir. Reaper blood. Reaper blood. Oh, was that too much? Klaus? Yeah.

14:53

Want something more than you? Yes. You're the host.

14:58

All right, all right, all right, all right. Oh, this is good.

15:04

Where's this coming from, Noah?

15:05

It's from Smokin' Ed Curry.

15:07

Yeah, but what's IN THIS [ __ ] WHAT'S IN THIS [ __ ] OH.

15:13

UH, I THINK YOU'RE DOING SO GOOD, and I'm so so I'm so proud of you.

15:19

And to think, remember when it started with us back in the basement at Jimmy's 43? Yeah, I remember.

15:23

I think it's a little bit more hot than my Scandinavian cousins.

15:30

I got a chili that was hotter than my Scandinavian cousin. We We read about that.

15:34

I definitely remember that.

15:35

I feel like something was lost in translation there, Chili Klaus.

15:39

But I meant my Scandinavian cousins as the fruit of the pepper. Yeah.

15:42

But uh But the YouTube community at large kind of took it as as you talking about your actual cousin. Yeah. Okay. Yeah.

15:51

Oh my god, how do I duck in How do I How do I just like teleport to my apartment?

15:59

There's no go This is Now I know what it's like to be trapped on Hot Ones.

16:02

16:47

We don't We don't We're not a good mix together. But we are a bad mix. Bad combination. I like it. It's very tasty.

16:58

And it also builds up a little bit.

16:58

But the typical reaper flavor is definitely there. All right, Klaus. Yeah.

17:11

By virtue of eating peppers together, you and I have formed a bond that is stronger than steel. Thank you.

17:19

From the basement of Jimmy's number 43 to Central Park and now in the studio, it's like a long lost friend every time I see you.

17:26

What is it about spicy food that brings people together?

17:28

Why are chilies the ultimate connector of the human race?

17:33

It's It's because all over the world everyone knows what a chili pepper is. Mhm.

17:39

And uh nothing has to be explained.

17:41

18:55

19:11
