a lot of solar goes into something that ultimately is rewarding for all of us as fans and listeners and artist who has made a career out of that from day one a life out of that from day one banks it's good to have you because every time we've sort of like spoken before it's
always been leading up to music so I kind of went into this project for the first time since we ever met yeah totally just listening to it without any real kind of conversation background and I have to say maybe I just don't do interviews anymore I totally loved it thank you how do you feel now it's out I
feel so good I'm just like I mean I do it for me so I know it doesn't at the end of the day it doesn't really matter what people think but of course I mean when you care so much about yeah so I feel I'm relieved I'm really excited to get out on the road and perform it I feel I'm in a really good place right
now like I have in in my career there have been times where I have not been in a good place and it's been very hard for me but I am in a great place right now and I'm just like really stoked to just get out there and perform and like sing with everyone well fans are gonna be
thrilled to hear you're in good formulations from them to get through and I want to talk about this album cuz we even had chance to dive into it and I love it and we're gonna start with the song that you kind of gave to us first as a gift which is called gimme and I wonder why you decided to share that one
because the body of work start-to-finish is a body of work my gut is has never led me wrong and I think that um I just wanted to go with something that felt like a slap in your face initially I wrote it just it was me and Buddy Ross and it was just that damn tank right
there it was just that synth line initially and I was like uh it needs like it just needs head moe I love being inspired by people we just came together at a time where I feel like it was just super fun and inspiring and yeah it was pretty much like him buddy Ross and BJ Burton or my my boys
they were like who I I worked with like kind of throughout I don't like working with many people because it's so intimate and like you it's like it's like therapy mixed with dating we have fan questions here this one from hub how many songs including unreleased ones did
you actually record a make for three I mean there's a like ideas wise like 50 but like finished we flushed out finished songs that I think are like I really do definitely want to put out I feel like there's like maybe eight or nine that I didn't get on this project that I will want to like
definitely do something with you definitely want to see them through and get them in sores or I love that we talked a little bit about that piece of music because I'm gonna say something I hope you take this too right away but it's really lovely to hear you in that
zone I think that a lot of times especially in music when you when you write about like the ending of a relationship or a breakup or looking back either you hate yourself or you hate the other person or there's some sort of judgment or anger or resentment or this or that but with that song I
mean it's quite sad it's like about it singing about like did did we really not work out because we weren't right for each other were you just depressed but it's sung from this place of like really just like self-love and loving that person like just no hmm no guilt
there's no heaviness in that song and that's why it's like singing about a really heavy subject and it's a something that I had to work hard not to feel hate towards myself about love like that and yeah yeah that song special because of that because it's just all love you're a real singer though and
that sort of things I love about your music is that you remind me of Sam Smith in that way like I remember he said to me once you can do whatever you want with the track I'll decide later on as long as my vocals the highest thing in it that's actually really nice to hear
because I think for me there's like tracks on the album that I think like I wanted a lot of distortion and I wanted like a really like busy environment because it felt like that like what the situation when I was singing about it felt overwhelming and then there's songs
like sawzall and made of water and what about love and even Alaska where it's like I want to just like be on the tippy top on my tippy toes like on top of everything pain wants to know what the fastest song you made for your album was probably till now okay till now was the last song I wrote and I thought the
album was done I was just in the studio like kind of like going through each track like does this need to be there I should we cut that part should this ends be louder blah blah blah blah all that but till now came out just like barf out of me I had started it the night before
me and BJ were just messing around and it kind of started is this like really like sexual like minimal well I don't know it was a different vibe and then the next day and the lyrics weren't coming to me that easily and I think it was because what I really wanted or needed to write about I
didn't want to write about because it's painful and then yeah right so it came out and and it's nice like the last song I did is the opener are you gonna include poetry in your life shows and have you had any ideas about that I have had ideas and I don't want to give anything away but I'm marinating
it's gonna be right whatever it ends up being but generations of women from the moon is a poetry book that I done and this out about my illustrations and everything is so surprised I mean I think it is a surprise for me because I just know I mean it's very it's like
surreal for me like I think that I wrote you know the book and made the album going through the same thing so it's like they funnel into the same part of me that really fulfills me but they come from different voices I think like my music is it's like about the nitty-gritties and dynamics and my
poetry it's more like this maternal wise woman that I have inside of my stomach that it's more about like bigger concepts that I need to work through rather than like nitty-gritty things and I think that I know that if I ever have a daughter I'm gonna want her I want to
read her that book for sure Chabad question what happened to the collaboration you did with a it's dope yeah it's heard at one point from Andris are there any artists making music right now that are catching your eye now your album is done mmm you can go listen to other people's music oh god I'm so bad
at these questions cuz I get so that's why I gave you like the longest intro the question I have actually asked that question three different ways Francis because you know I was listening to a lot of his stuff cuz we made that song together he's incredible yeah and um I'm
thinking about the people that I've been working with and who they work with a lot cuz so I've heard a lot of their stuff Bon Iver I just like died for him this from Xena are there any other collaborations or producers that are on your wish list that you'd love to work
with people you mentioned chance earlier yeah uh who else is Jack Garrett I am really yeah Tracy Chapman where you had good shout Wow Jay Paul Oh throwing that in there oh please there are people out there who have made amazing music who is active right now because they don't need to be there I
want to be perhaps they're just living a different type of life but they still come through like obviously you know Justin Vernon working with Bruce Hornsby and you just hear these people come up and still contribute amazing things and Michael Donald's quite active he actually lives around sports like I can
walk to his house Julie knows just throw a stone to each other's house and going happen we it's happening what's happening I mean it's it's gonna happen what's going on with music videos we're gonna we're making one for contaminated amazing I think it's gonna feel real and
special and I don't want it I mean I hope I hope I hope it's good this is from Twilight have you ever felt a desire to separate yourself from your stage presence you know and the difference between you as an artist and a performer when I first started touring and making music I I did not want to
wear anything but black and I wanted my hair black and I wanted I was exactly what I what I was I stopped touring and I stopped dyeing my hair and it's my natural color now and I feel a little bit more romantic right now rather than like I want to like chain smoke
cigarettes in the misery served you well and so misery I was more guarded and I feel like softer now cuz I'm like you know that's why I wrote songs like sawzall and stuff I don't think I could have written those before because I wasn't in the place where I was I was at
peace enough to be so soft and I think that I feel less guarded now and I think that my hair is natural enough you're grateful I'm really glad to see you in such good space and it really suits all of it suits you that means a lot they that's that just that touched me thank you for saying that's sweet you
