Bad Bunny: My face is burning. My face is burning. My face. Is. Burning.
Bad Bunny: My face is burning. My face is burning. My face. Is. Burning.
Sean: Hey, what's going on, everybody?
For <i>First We Feast</i>, I'm Sean Evans, and you're watching <i>Hot Ones</i>.
It's the show with hot questions and even hotter wings.
And today we're joined by Bad Bunny.
He's a three time <i>Grammy Award</i> winning artist and one of the most streamed musicians on the planet.
This summer, he'll be doing a residency in his homeland of Puerto Rico.
And all of this coming off the heels of his acclaimed brand new, number one album in the world.
It's called "<i>Debì Tirar Màs Fotos</i>".
Bad Bunny, welcome to the show. Bad Bunny: Hi. Thank you.
Sean: How do you think you'll do taking on the wings today?
I understand that you, sometimes, enjoy the homemade hot sauces of Puerto Rico.
Bad Bunny: These smell, like, spicy, so far.
Like, I'm feeling a little spiciness in my face. Just, just to smell it. Oh, my God.
All right, let's do this.
Bro, taht's it, we're done. It's delicious.
Sean: "<i>BAILE INoVIDABLE</i>", that's my favorite song on the album. Bad Bunny: Nice. Thank you.
Sean: Can you give me the back story on that?
You know, because from the salsa lessons and the music video to the new artists that you have on the song, it just seems like such a joyous celebration of the arts.
Bad Bunny: Yeah, it's a very special song that I had in my mind for too long.
It's, seeing it come true, one of my favorite experiences ever, creating music, but I actually been taking salsa lessons.
So, I really learned a lot creating this song about everything.
Like, about the salsa, about...
with all these young guys, musicians.
I've been learning a lot and that's why it's very special song to me.
And I'm glad that you like it.
And a lot of people around the world love that song it's, it's pretty beautiful. So, I have a question. Sean: Sure. Bad Bunny: Is...
every wing is spicier than the other one? Sean: Yeah.
That's how this show is designed. Bad Bunny: Fuck.
And that was the first one?
Sean: I know, I know, I know. I know. Bad Bunny: Okay.
Sean: This next one is called 'Lift Off'. Bad Bunny: This one? Sean: Mhm. Bad Bunny: Oh, God. Wow!
The crazy thing is that they taste so good. It's really good.
It's like a, it's a problem, because it's so fucking spicy, but it's really good. Sean: Right. I know.
Bad Bunny: It tastes really good. Especially this one.
Tastes better than the first one. Sean: There we go.
Bad Bunny: Right now, I wanna steal it in, but... What do I do? Wow! That's so, so, so good.
Sean: So, many consider you an ambassador of Puerto Rican slang worldwide.
Do you find that there's a major difference between the slang that's said by Puerto Ricans, at home, versus New York?
Do the two influence each other?
Bad Bunny: Definitely, that's different between the slangs, uh, especially in New York, there's a lot of Dominicans, too.
The Puerto Rican slang with the Dominican slang, they mix each other.
I think with the social media, like TikTok and all these platforms, they could, we could be connected no matter how far we are.
So, I think that yes, this...
the end of the day is the same slang, so forget everything that I said.
I should've spoken with my doctor before doing this.
I don't know if I'm getting used to... but this is less spicy. Sean: I think... You know what?
'Cause you're in the game now. You know? Bad Bunny: You think?
Sean: Like, you're a wrestler, you know, when you take your first bump and now you're in it. Sean: You know? Bad Bunny: Okay.
Sean: Like, that's what happened, is you took your first bump.
Bad Bunny: I feel it, like, less spicy than the other one.
Well, thank you for being nice on the third one. Sean: You're welcome. You're welcome.
What can you remember about your middle school talent show performance of "<i>Mala Gente</i>"? Do you remember that?
And how did the nerves of that compare to, say, headlining Coachella?
Were you more nervous for your middle school talent show?
Bad Bunny: I swear to God, yes.
Yeah, and it was in third grade. Sean: Third grade? Bad Bunny: Third grade.
I was ten years old, and, yes, definitely, I was more nervous...
more nervous that day than the Coachella perform.
I, actually, I don't remember anything, because I, I was on my own world.
I just remember the floor, 'cause that was what I was looking...
the floor, the whole presentation.
Like, it was like a fear that I had to beat.
Like the fear to be in front of the people. Um...
scared, uh, but I, if, if, if I wanna, to get successful and get far making music, I have to perform in front of people.
So, it was part of my evolution as a person and as a artist. Okay, "Loco" fire. Sean: Now, this one... Yeah.
Bad Bunny: It burns at the end, fuck, it's going to fuck up my intestines. Sean: I know. Get on top of it.
Bad Bunny: That's what scares me.
I'm not scared now, because I put this in my mouth... and that passes. Sean: I agree.
Bad Bunny: My ass is what's going to be messed up, when it's time to sit down.
Sean: So, what I love about your music, for lack of a better word, is it's hard. You know?
It has this kind of thunder quality that reminds me of the hip hop that I grew up listening to.
What kinds of, like, instrumentation goes into making that signature Bad Bunny sound?
Bad Bunny: Especially on this album, there's a lot of salsa, there's, there's, uh, other rhythms that I never, uh, done before, so... it was, uh...
I think the fact that I'm doing it is what makes it different and new.
Like "<i>PIToRRO DE COCO</i>" is a traditional folk music song.
I didn't change anything but the...
a little bit of synth at the very beginning, but then the cuatro comes in, and the gürio, and the bongos.
Maybe the way that I mix it, everything... the bongo fades in.
And the cuts are real dry, like as if I was making a reggaeton beat.
But, the fact that I'm doing this whole rhythm is what makes it, like, new. And I like it. So, how's it work? Sean: Yeah. Bad Bunny: Okay.
'Cause now I'm feeling it. Sean: Yeah, yeah. Yeah.
Bad Bunny: And I don't like it, 'cause I'm, I'm worried about my colon, I worry about...
Sean: But, you're doing great, so far.
Do you feel like you're doing good?
I feel like you're doing good.
Bad Bunny: I'm doing great, but I worry.
I think I will be at the bathroom the whole trip from here to Puerto Rico. Damn. And what's the milk for? To put... Damn.
My tongue is burning, so I feel like cat doing this. I already drank water.
Ah, that's why it's burning even more. 'Cause I drank water. Sean: Mm.
Bad Bunny: And they just told me that. Does... Sean: Don't drink water. Don't drink water. Bad Bunny: Fuck! Wait.
Why you didn't tell me that before? I said... Okay.
I have all this here, like... okay, lets do this. Sean: Mhm. Bad Bunny: So...
Sean: This next one is "Los Calientes", if you're ready.
So, you're clearly aware of the power that you have to break stereotypes, not only with your music, but also with your style.
So, if you'll humor me, what we've done is pulled some of our favorite Bad Bunny looks from over the years.
We'll pull them up over here, on the monitor. Bad Bunny: Oh, my God.
Sean: And I'm just curious, the memories that they bring back and the stories behind how these fits came together.
Here you are in custom Margiela for the <i>Met Gala</i>.
Bad Bunny: I wanna remember a lot of beautiful things about that day, but I just remember that I couldn't breathe, 'cause I was wearing a corset. Sean: Oh. Bad Bunny: Yeah.
And I remember, after the <i>Met</i>, I went to, to the car by myself.
I was alone in the, in the car...
the driver, and me backseat, trying to take off the corset.
Fuck, that was, for real, such a punishment. But, I did it. I made it. I'm here.
Sean: Taking on these wings.
Bad Bunny: Risking my life, uh, again Sean: I believe this is the night that you won your first <i>Grammy Award</i>.
Bad Bunny: That was one of my favorite ones.
I just love that look, 'cause it's very different, but classy at the same time. With the hat...
you barely can tell that I have, like a, like a, like a... ears, like a bunny ears.
At least to me, it doesn't look, like, funny.
It looks, like, very serious, and elegant, and classy. Very... It was improvised.
God, I'm even getting a headache. Okay.
My head is hurting, fuck. That's a very nice name. "Volkano".
Don't sound that is spicy.
Sean: So, you seem to be having a lot of fun on this press tour, you know, from co-hosting The Tonight Show, you did that pop-up in the New York City subway, here you are eating wings.
I'm curious, how is your relationship to doing interviews in the United States changed over the course of your career?
Like, are you having more fun now?
Bad Bunny: You know that I'm still struggling with the English. Sean: Yeah, yeah.
Bad Bunny: So, I need to put a lot of attention to you to understand you. Sean: Yeah, but...
Bad Bunny: But, now I'm struggling with the fucking spicy... Sean: No, I get it. Bad Bunny: ... on my mouth. So...
Sean: Do you want some ice cream? Bad Bunny: Ice cream? Sean: Yeah.
Bad Bunny: That sounds nice. Sean: Yeah. Check it out. Bad Bunny: Oh! Ice cream. Damn! Is this coconut? Mmm. Best idea ever. Thank you. Sean: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I've got you, I've got you.
Bad Bunny: Yes, I really like it, especially with this album, 'cause I know how special it is.
I came with all these guys from Puerto Rico, Los Pleneros de la Cresta, all the musicians that played in "<i>BAILE INoVIDABLE</i>", "<i>LA MuDANZA</i>"...
So, it's a whole different experience, being a whole different experience, because it's not only about me, it's about every of them, every of us, is feel like I'm bringing a little bit of Puerto Rico to all these places and bringing the culture.
And I always like to connect with people and, yeah, it's fun...
And now this ice cream, I think, it's fixing my whole life.
Bad Bunny: My teeth hurt, fuck. What if I do this? Sean: Yeah. There you go. Sean: That's smart.
Can't totally escape it, though.
Bad Bunny: The ice cream got spicy. Oh, fuck.
Fuck, this is the hottest.
Sean: So, in my humble opinion...
Bad Bunny: I'm fucked, bro. Sean: ...
you're the best celebrity wrestler, ever, in the <i>WWE</i>. You know?
From the cells to the bumps...
Bad Bunny: That's your opinion? Sean: That's my opinion. Bad Bunny: No. There's a fact. Sean: Oh! I think that's true. I think that's true. Bad Bunny: Yeah. Yeah.
Like, 'The Canadian Destroyer', that you pulled on John Morrison at <i>WrestleMania</i>.
Bad Bunny: 'The Bunny Destroyer'. Sean: That was amazing.
Bad Bunny: That was a John Morrison's idea.
Like: "You should do 'The Canadian Destroyer' and we call it 'The Bunny Destroyer'." . And we did it. We practiced it.
We, we, we really, I really learned a lot about him, about, uh, Damian Priest, uh, The Miz, um, and all the guys that was... coaching me.
Sean: Did you have a most painful moment in the ring?
Bad Bunny: Damian Priest hit me with the candlestick, 'cause I always been listening, since I was a kid, like: "Oh, the candlestick. That doesn't hurt.
That's like, uh, it's like this little wooden stick." , but fuck... That hurt. Sean: Mhm. Bad Bunny: Like, a lot. That hurt a lot.
Sean: And then, you know, I got so hyped watching you on your walkout for the <i>San Juan Street</i> <i>Fight</i>. Bad Bunny: Yeah. Sean: You know?
What makes "<i>CHAMBEA</i>" such a great song to walk out when you're a wrestler?
What makes that song such a good entrance song? Bad Bunny: I don't know.
I think it's the very beginning, the melody, the energy.
And it's crazy, 'cause since the first time that I dreamed with, with, with be on <i>WWE</i>, I always knew that that was the perfect song.
When they went to Puerto Rico, I said: "Everyone in Puerto Rico know this song."
, and it's gonna be like...
Sean: Shaking the stadium. Bad Bunny: Yes.
And it's one of the best moments of my life.
That entrance, I was like, wow.
It was a beautiful moment. Yeah.
Sean: All right, Bad Bunny.
This next wing is "Da' Bomb Beyond Insanity".
Bad Bunny: Bro, what do I win if I eat what's left?
Bad Bunny: Like, what the fuck? Sean: That I understood. Bad Bunny: Oh. I'm scared. Bad Bunny: Ah! Oh!
Have to throw out the milk, because I put hot sauce in it and everything. Sean: I know.
I gotta get, I gotta get in the ice, cream, I gotta get into the ice cream on this one. Bad Bunny: I'm fucked. I'm fucked. Sean: Yeah. Yeah.
Then, just be careful around the eyes. Yeah. Yeah, I know. I know. Bad Bunny: I died. My tongue, fuck!
Where do I put my tongue? Sean: More ice cream?
You want some more ice cream? Bad Bunny: No, no. I... Sean: Here you go.
Bad Bunny: Give me a break, brother.
I'm not messing around, just so you know.
Sean: Do you wanna call it on the wings? We can call it on the...
we don't have to eat more wings.
Bad Bunny: There's no way that I gonna eat all those. There's no way. Sean: It's okay.
Sean: You don't, you don't have to. You don't have to. You don't have to.
Bad Bunny: (speaks Spanish) DJ Khaled: I'm gonna keep, I'm not doing it, man. Rob Corrdry: I, I... and I'm done. Ricky Gervais: Aaaah!
Ricky Gervais: It's really hot. Lil Yachty: Oh, my God.
Bad Bunny: My face is burning. My face is burning. My face. Is. Burning. My whole face. Sean: Yeah.
Bad Bunny: It's spicy right now. Is, is hot. Sean: That... You know what?
And that means we've pushed it to the limit, and we don't need to go crazier. Okay? Bad Bunny: Okay. Thank you for that. Sean: All right.
Just enjoy your ice cream.
But, if you don't mind, I just have one more question for you.
You know, it's amazing how you were able to conduct this interview in English, especially when being attacked by the hottest hot sauces in the world. All right? Bad Bunny: It's hard.
Sean: But, your music is an invitation for people to learn Spanish.
So, I'll close with a delivery of my own.
What legacy do you want to leave behind?
Bad Bunny: Man, that's a question that, every time they ask me, sounds very profound.
And a person, at least for me, I don't look at things in that way.
I've always said that I've never changed, that I'm still the same kid that dreamed of shining, and for the world to know who I am.
I'm not looking for any type of tribute, or for my legacy to be rememberd.
My legacy is this, I was always Benito from Puerto Rico, from Vaga Baja.
And that's how I was able to accomplish things never imagined before.
Sean: Profound, I'm sure.
And look at you, Bad Bunny.
Taking on the wings of death. Living to tell the tale.
And now there's nothing left to do, but roll out the red carpet for you.
This camera, this camera, or this camera.
Let the people know what you have going on in your life. Bad Bunny: Okay.
Well, people, right now we're enjoying this, this project, this album.
Thank you to everyone for the way that you really are been embracing and taking this, this project that is the most special project that I ever made.
I wanna tell everyone to come to Puerto Rico, enjoy my island from the people, from the culture. I'm very grateful. I'm very happy. Thank you.
And don't come here to eat wings, because they're spicy as fuck. Bad Bunny: Wow.
Bad Bunny: I don't like to, to, to...
leave, like, things unfinished? Sean: Yeah.
Sean: But listen, I get it. I get it.
Bad Bunny: I'm gonna feel bad the whole, whole month. So, fuck. It was only two more.
