Announcing OSV

0:00

O'Shaughnessy Ventures has been something that has been, like in my mind for probably the last 10 years.

0:08

I think that the pandemic lock-in advanced trends that were already there by, in some circumstances as much as seven to 10 years.

0:20

My thesis is that, you know, for most of human history, a genius was born, lived, and died and no one knew anything about him or her.

0:30

Talent, innovation, creativity are mostly probably normally distributed.

0:35

And for the first time in human history, we can go find that person in Nairobi, we can go find the person in Bangladesh.

0:45

And fund them, to do a whole variety of things.

0:49

A big part of the dominating theme that's guiding everything at OSV is we want asymmetric opportunities that are win-win.

0:58

So each vertical is going to address a different aspect.

1:02

Infinite Films is the first vertical that was, because as you know, I love movies.

1:08

I've been disgusted with the fact that Hollywood doesn't make Rudy anymore.

1:14

It really bothers me that they don't make inspirational movies that also inspire people. We'll do documentaries.

1:25

We'll do feature type films, We're gonna advertise, are you a director? Are you a screenwriter?

1:33

Are you all of these things.

1:35

We'll get the applications, we'll pick the director, we'll pick the producer will pick the cinematographer.

1:43

My guess is they're all gonna be young and probably out of film school, and then they can dissipate.

1:51

They're all gonna get a piece of ownership of the movie Ultimately I see this as probably like five years from now, we'll be mostly an AI movie company.

2:01

the next vertical is Infinite Media.

2:04

I think media is, growing, and is going to be part of every, ecosystem.

2:08

We think at O S V that there's gonna be opportunities to like roll up some podcasts, not in a venture methodology, but more like a bond.

2:21

Like I think we can put together a package of podcasts and make offers to the podcaster where, look, you become part of this family, we'll pay you X amount right now, you'll get x amount of revenues.

2:34

The next vertical is the one that I'm best known now for because Stability, which is Infinite Adventures.

2:41

I, I love the fact that that was the original term of venture capital.

2:46

It wasn't venture capital, it was adventure capital.

2:49

So one of the things that I was gonna do after we sold OSAM was this idea of Gray Swan, And I explained the gray swan to him and he goes, "that's really, really cool.

3:00

question, do you have 500 million lying around for the compute power that you're gonna need to do this?"

3:06

And I'm like, okay, we're gonna put gray swan on the back burner.

3:10

Then Dan called me about two weeks later and he goes, I think I found your gray swan.

3:15

And it was Emad and Stability ai.

3:19

We're gonna run a fellowship.

3:20

It's gonna be a hundred thousand for a year.

3:24

And we want it to be very disparate.

3:25

We want it aimed at creatives, but my definition of a creative is somewhat different than other people's.

3:32

You are a creative, an entrepreneur is a creative, artists obviously are creatives. scientists are creative.

3:39

Atlantis, this mythical kingdom sent out its explorers to the rest of the world and they sent 12.

3:46

And so I'm like, let's fund 12 fellowships based on these atlantian notions.

3:53

So we're gonna get four who we're gonna fund to make original mistakes.

3:58

the next four are gonna build original mistakes, and the final four are gonna try to explain and educate what we learned from the, original mistakes.

4:09

So each of the fellowships will be a hundred thousand dollars for a year.

4:13

And of course with the fellows.

4:14

I mean, if you're ambitious, you're gonna apply for a hundred thousand dollars free money, fellowship, where you get to work on anything you wanna work on.

4:23

And by the way, I'm not gonna like say I'm doing this for the people.

4:27

I'm not, man, I'm doing this for me.

4:29

One of the side benefits that I also love is the idea that I can make, hopefully, life better for people with these innovations, with the people I end up working with, with expanding the network for and allowing people into the network who were boxed out before.

4:48

Like, I'm not doing anything so that I can add another zero to my worth.

4:54

Like, I just don't care about that.

4:56

What I do care about is like ideas and having somebody who is consistently going to say, okay, with all your pessimism, I'm gonna be busy over here.

5:10

Being optimistic and making a ton of money, while you are pessimistic, Take some action.

5:15

Ideas are great, I value them highly, but ideas that aren't put into action are daydreams you've got to take action against the ideas that animate you.

5:26

Come to the site, listen to this conversation, and then look at all of the opportunities that we are making available to you.
